Helen Gautreaux Hallaron died on June 10, 2025 in Selma, Texas. She was born in Crowley, Louisiana, on April 5, 1928, to Wilson J. and Azemie Breaux Gautreaux, and raised in the small town of Mermentau. She graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (S.L.I.) in Lafayette, Louisiana in May 1949 with a degree in Education. She also pursued postgraduate work at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.
Helen began teaching in Welsh, Louisiana, in 1949. In November 1951, she applied for a commission in the U.S. Navy and in April 1952, was commissioned with the rank of ensign. She went to Newport, Rhode Island for 16 weeks indoctrination before getting her first station assignment in Washington, D.C. serving in the Office of Naval Intelligence (O.N.I.) at the Pentagon until November 1955. She was transferred to New Orleans and worked in the Office of Naval Personnel, which covered five states. She always wanted to stay close to her family and watch over her beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren of which there are many. Helen loved each of them and always remembered them in her prayers.
Helen’s whole life was based on her love of God and her family. Her family was her most valuable treasure. She was happiest surrounded by them at home or on beach vacations in Port Aransas, Texas. May she find all the prettiest shells on Heaven’s shores.
