Helen Ann Sellars, nee Empson was born March 4, 1930, in Houston, Harris County Texas to John Ellis and Clara Rise Empson and passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Conroe, Texas July 28, 2025, at age 95. She was raised by her adoptive parents, CL and Iva Newell in Houston. She attended Sam Houston High School in Houston and obtained a teaching degree from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in Huntsville, Texas. She met the love of her life, Fred T. Sellars, Jr. while attending SHSU. They were married on January 23, 1955, in Houston Texas and began their life together in Huntsville and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2009.
Helen was a proud second-grade teacher at Sam Houston Elementary in Conroe, Texas for over 30 years, shaping young minds with patience and love. Alongside her husband Fred, she was a big part of Fred’s Auto Parts, a family business that served Conroe for decades.
Helen never met a stranger. She found joy in the simple things: playing dominoes and card games, fishing, hunting, league bowling, cheering on the Astros with special friend Pat Braun, attending the local community theater plays with special friend Sue Hereford, playing Bunco with her Bunco friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Above all, she loved the Lord and lived a life full of grace, laughter and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Ellis Empson, son Donald Ellis Sellars and son in law Tommy Imhoff.
She is survived by son Thomas W. Sellars and wife Cindy, daughter Sharon Ann Imhoff, daughter Lisa Ann Meeks and husband Mike. Seven Grandchildren, Shane Imhoff and wife Lee, John T. Sellars and wife Katie, Ginger A. Kaasjager, DPM and husband Dustin, Brandon Imhoff and wife Erica, Holly McDermott and husband Erskine, Cody Meeks and wife Lauren, Colton Meeks. She is also survived by 14 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her faithful four-legged companion Chewie and many other beloved family members and close friends.
Her Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the domino group at Northside Baptist Church.
A visitation will be held Monday August 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church, N FM 3083 West, Conroe, Texas, 77303 with Wes Pratt officiating.
A Private interment for family and close friends will be held at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to Northside Baptist Church, American Heart Association or a charity of their choice.
