

Ima Smith, 96, of Conroe, Texas passed away Saturday, December, 24th, 2016. Ima was born in Minden, Texas to Dempse and Bonnie Gage. She grew up on the family farm with her siblings, Tom, Avis, Doyle and Lorene. As a child she picked cotton on the farm. She moved to Orange, Texas and worked in the ship yard for Consolidated Steel, where she met her husband Dalco Smith. After the war she moved to The Port Arthur- Groves area and raised her family, twin boys Donald and Ronald, daughter Shirley and son Gary, and two frequently visiting step children Linda and Larry Smith whom she loved dearly. She entered the work for again and worked in retail for Meldisco Corporation. She retired after 22 years of service.
Ima was a great mother, she learned how to sew and would make many pretty dressed and play clothes for her children. Ima would pack the car with camping gear and take her children to Lake Tejas, Trout Creek and to the beach, to camp and swim. She would also take her children crabbing on the Neches River. After her son Ronald passed away in 2006, she moved to Conroe, Texas, where she joined First Baptist Church and the Faithful life group. She was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Groves where she was saved and baptized at the age of 76. Ima never met a stranger; she had a beautiful smile that made her face light up. Ima is preceded in death by siblings, Tom Gage, Avis Morris and Doyle Gage; son, Ronald; step daughter, Linda Carter.
She is survived by her sons, Donald and his wife Kathy, Gary and his wife Laura; daughter, Shirley and her husband Buddy; daughter in law, Sandra Smith; sister, Lorene Green; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews
Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2016 from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 31, 2016 beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be after the service in Maple Grove Cemetery in Minden, Texas. Ima will be missed dearly but knowing she is in the presence of our lord and savior gives us comfort and peace.
