

Irene Carol Chance was born August 31st, 1926 in Beech, Texas to Melvin Traylor and Ethel Burke. Also born to Melvin and Ethel were two brothers, Thomas Traylor and Merle Traylor, and sister Donna Wood.
Irene went to be with our Lord September 16th, 2017.
Raised near a wood mill in Beech, Irene helped raise her younger siblings while her father worked the saw mill.
Irene met her husband, Curtis Chance in 1948. The couple married in 1952. They were blessed with one child, Sandra Merle Conner.
They were also blessed with three grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
After the war, Irene and Curtis ran a diner in downtown Conroe near the bus station for several years.
Curtis Chance went on to become a land surveyor for nearly 50 years.
Irene went to work at JC Penny’s in downtown Conroe for nearly two decades. She later worked at several furniture stores in the Conroe area off and on until she was in her 80’s.
Irene loved being around her family. She enjoyed conversations with friends and family more than anything else. She was a devoted wife to her husband, a loving mother to her daughter, and an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Sandra Conner, and her children, Mark Conner, Candace Conner, and Chanin Conner Holcomb. Seven great-grandchildren, McKinleey Humber, Gracie Holcomb, Chance Allison, Katie Rice, Taylor Conner, Madison Conner Gedmin, and Isabella Conner.
Two great-great grandchildren, Locklyn Johnson and Ember Conner Gedmin.
Two nephews, Curtis Matthews and Melvin Wood.
Metcalf Funeral Directors are handling funeral arrangements. There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday 25th.
