Irene was ahead of her time as a wife with her ability to balance the obligations to raise a family, support her husband’s career, while at the same time having a very long and successful nursing career for over 50 years. She retired in 2014 as a neonatal nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work and long-term friendships with her coworkers through her years at both Tomball Regional Hospital and Texas Children’s. She was formally recognized several times by her employers during her life’s work for her accomplishments, both as a high performing, talented nurse, and for being a valued mentor to nurses who were early in their careers.
Irene was a devoted wife to Doug and supported him through his many health challenges over the last 20 years of his life until his passing in 2018. She supported Doug’s career and managed the family through the many moves as he advanced in his profession. After multiple moves in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, Irene and Doug moved their family to Cypress, TX in 1978 with Doug’s promotion to a role with General Electric’s oilfield business in the Houston area. They resided there until they moved to the Bentwater community, in Montgomery, TX in 2002. She was a devoted mother to her children and persevered to support them through both the good times and challenging times in their lives. Her passion for her native New England, her Irish heritage, and the close relationships she maintained with her siblings, their children and grandchildren were an enduring light and joy in her life, particularly after the passing of her husband.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 1, 2025, from 2 PM to 4 PM at Lakehouse in Grand Central Park at 1039 Lake House Dr, Conroe TX
