Jim grew up in Bessemer and graduated from A.D. Johnston in 1957. He went on to attend Michigan Tech, graduating in 1961—an early reflection of the steady discipline and sharp mind that would guide him throughout his life.
A metallurgical steel engineer by trade, Jim built a career marked by diligence and pride in doing things the right way. He retired from Magnum Metal in Conroe, Texas, leaving behind a reputation for reliability, practical wisdom, and an ability to solve problems with calm confidence. Gifted in mathematics and known as a remarkable problem solver, he brought both precision and good sense to the work in front of him—and, often, a quiet humor that made hard days lighter for those around him.
Jim was married to Marie for 58 years. Together they raised two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer, and built a family life grounded in loyalty, devotion, and enduring love.
Outside of work, Jim found deep satisfaction in making things out of wood. He loved woodworking and owned most types of saws—tools that suited his hands-on nature and his enjoyment of creating something lasting and useful.
For the last 36 years, Jim was a member of Grace Lutheran in Montgomery, Texas, where his faithful presence reflected a life lived with steadiness and commitment.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, John, and mother, Ina; brother, Jack Erickson; and sister, Shirley Niepoetter. He is survived by his sister, Doris Saari (Erickson); son, Jeffrey Erickson and wife Robin; daughter, Jennifer Roberson (Erickson) and husband Bill; and three grandchildren, Maxwell Roberson, Nolan Roberson, and Abigail Roberson.
Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 13123 TX-105 W, W, Conroe, TX 77304, on September 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. A Funeral Service will follow at Grace Lutheran Church on September 11, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Graveside services will be held at Garden Park Cemetery, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303, on September 11, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
