Jo Nell (Stanley) Hazlewood

Some called her Jo, some Jo Nell; her husband called her Blondie. But her favorite was being called Grandma Jo. On Saturday, September 12, 2026, Jo Nell Hazlewood (“Grandma Jo”) passed away peacefully, having recently marked her 101st birthday.

Jo was born on August 19, 1925, in Eastland, Texas, the second of seven children. After moving to Fort Worth, Jo – an avid lover of Big Band music and dancing – was introduced to Carroll – more of a honkey-tonk kind of fella – and the two began what would ultimately become a 54-year marriage before his passing in 2000. Together, they embarked on adventures across the country, taking them from Hawaii to Niagara Falls and many places in between. Their greatest joys came from supporting their son Jim and later his daughter Christine. After Christine’s children, Brooks and Finn, came along, Jo’s favorite activity was looking at a photo of the four generations of her family – a source of great pride for her. Over the years, Jo also enjoyed playing golf and bridge, taking line dancing classes in April Sound, and eating peanut M&Ms which she referred to as her “vitamins.”

Jo is survived by her son James Hazlewood and his wife Sherry; granddaughter Christine Hazlewood Parker and her husband Owen; and great-grandsons Brooks and Finnegan Parker – all of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Caroll Hazlewood, as well as her six siblings and their parents, O.E. and Melinda (Chandler) Stanley. A special thanks to the incredible staff of Belmont Village – West University, especially Sandy and Michael, for caring for Jo as though they were part of the family, too.

A private ceremony will be held to celebrate Grandma Jo and a life wonderfully and beautifully lived.
