Joan graduated from Bonne Terre High School and attended Southeast Missouri State College for two years. She married Farris W. “Doc” Zuspan in Bonne Terre in May, 1952. Over the years they lived in Killeen TX, St. Louis, MO, Madison, WI, and Crystal Lake, IL. Joan and her family relocated to Conroe, TX from Crystal Lake in 1982 when Doc accepted a position with Red Wing Shoe company. Once in Texas, Joan became a member of the Conroe Methodist Church and volunteered with the Conroe Assistance League. She was a 55-year member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) International and joined the local chapter in 1982. Joan enjoyed traveling, gathering with friends, and played tennis her entire life. First and foremost, though, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Joan’s legacy of love lives on through her family today.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Farris W. “Doc” Zuspan, her parents, her sisters Lora Vureen (Jim) Crane and Maxine (Bob) Ebersole, and brother-in-law George Martin. She is survived by her twin sister, June Martin of Austin, TX. Joan is also survived by: her children Cindy Zuspan of Conroe, TX., Dan Zuspan (Barb) of Snohomish, WA., Jeff Zuspan (Babette) of Bellaire, TX. and Todd Zuspan (Ann) of The Woodlands, TX.; grandchildren Callie Peterson (Matt), Nate Zuspan (Michelle), Kacie Zuspan (Adam Kuala), Jeffrey Zuspan, Nicolas Zuspan, Kara Zuspan (Preston Custer), Kyle Zuspan and Connor Zuspan; and great-grandchildren Lucy and Emersyn Peterson, Jada, Daron and Caleb Zuspan and Cameron Kuala.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Cashner Funeral Home located at 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to P.E.O. at: P.E.O.
