On November 27, 1941, John Mathew Batiste was born in Lafayette, Louisiana to the proud parents, John Sr. and Castena Batiste.
John was the youngest of the family of five siblings. Allen Witz, Lillian Williams, Mable McCarpen and Claude Batiste who all preceded him in death. He stayed in Louisiana until he was five years old. Later his family moved to Galveston, Texas. As an adult, he moved to Houston. He attended Galveston School District and graduated from Central High School.
In his early years, John traveled the world as a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine, and concluded his career as a Specialty Meat Cutter for Weingarten's and Rice Epicurean markets. They all loved him and everyone always asked John to take care of any of their specialty orders.
He was married to his life partner Patricia for 61 years. Wherever you saw one you saw the other. They were blessed with three sons, John and Larry Batiste, residing in Houston, Texas and Marcus Batiste, now living in New York.
Together they created the action in the word "go". No place was too far, no mountain high enough or long enough, low enough, for those two to travel or be there. Just say the word go and they are gone. You say come and they were on their way. They had energy on steroids. John loved to travel and see what this beautiful universe had to offer. John loved music, dancing, golfing and dressing. Whenever he stepped out you had better known he was right on point. He loved people and people loved him.
John started his religious journey in the Catholic Church and later in life as an adult moved to the Baptist Church. He loved singing in the choir and the men's chorus. He later moved to The Woodlands area and united as one of the original members of St. Paul Baptist Church, which is now Impact Church of The Woodlands. He served as a deacon and was always willing to serve in any capacity needed.
John made his transition to his new home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. He leaves in memory his devoted wife, Patricia Batiste; three sons, John, Larry and Marcus; one grandson, Kaden; as well as a host of relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews and a band of loyal friends.
We will miss him greatly, but we know he will not be forgotten. We also know he is now resting in peace.
