John Edward Cannan

John Edward Cannan, 59, was born July 3, 1967, in San Antonio, Texas, and passed away July 26, 2026. A man of steady faith and plainspoken honesty, John was deeply cherished—by family, by friends, and by the many people who quickly became friends because he never met a stranger.

John graduated from Conroe High School in 1986. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, he earned his pipefitter certification, building a life marked by hard work and a sincere pride in doing things the right way.

John was very proud of his service to our country. He served in the U.S. and in Germany as a carpentry and masonry specialist in the United States Army from 1986 to 1990. After the Army, he worked as a pipefitter until a near fatal head injury in 1999 left him disabled. Even through life’s hardest turns, John’s steadfastness remained evident in the way he stayed connected to those he loved and in the loyalty he showed to the people who counted on him.

On March 4, 2001, John married Jennifer Simons. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Simons Cannan; sons, Lee Morgan Cannan and wife Brittnie, and Spencer Conner Cannan and wife Sarah; and granddaughters Kayleigh and Penelope Cannan. His devotion to his family was a constant, expressed in the care he gave, the conversations he never tired of, and the presence he worked to maintain in the lives of those closest to him.

John loved wolves, and he especially loved his husky, Maikoh, and his cats Macy and Daisy. If you knew John, chances are you received one of his phone calls. He loved talking with family and friends, sharing stories, listening without judgment, and offering advice whenever it was needed. Those conversations became some of the memories his loved ones will treasure most. Patriotic to the core, he loved to tell his Army stories. He also enjoyed surf fishing, welding, and pipefitting—interests that reflected both his practical skill and the straightforward satisfaction he found in honest work.

John was preceded in death by his daughter Alisha Nicole Cannan in 2021; mother Becky (Blanchard) Clark; father Edward Burleson Cannan, Jr.; grandparents Walter and Marge Blanchard and Edward and Mildred Cannan; and aunt, Pattie Blanchard Mueck. He is also survived by mother Lynne Carroll Cannan; aunts Beverly Woolum and Milly Jeffers; uncle Bill Cannan, Sr. and wife Diana; sister Melissa Threet and husband Bobby; nephew Taylor Espinosa and wife Noelle; two great nephews Skai and Yami; numerous cousins; and countless friends.

Memorial Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, Oak Hall, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303, on August 7, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at the same location on August 7, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

John will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his fierce love for his family, his willingness to tell it exactly as he saw it, and the countless conversations that reminded those he loved they were never alone. Though his voice has fallen silent, the lessons he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave will remain with all who knew him.
