

John George Gillespie Jr. went to be with the Lord on November 4th, 2017 at the age of 80. John George Gillespie Jr. was born in Marion, Virginia on September 14th, 1937 to John and Ruby Gillespie. After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he honorably served for 20 years. On June 14th, 1957 he married Beverly Tucker Gillespie. John worked as an air traffic controller for the Department of Defense and later for the Federal Aviation Agency. While working, he earned a degree from Embry-Riddle University in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church Conroe where he served as a deacon. Upon retiring he spent his time working with Volunteer Christian Builders, traveling the country, serving his family and spending as much time as possible with his grandkids. He was known for his love for the Lord, devotion to his wife, commitment to his family and friends, service to others, and patriotic spirit. He was dependable, loyal, and a man of integrity. In his spare time he enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee, a competitive game of dominoes or cards, traveling, and watching the Houston Astros. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Beverly Gillespie, his son John Gillespie III and wife Dawn, his daughter Rhonda Easley and her late husband, Tiger, his sister Christine Lommerse and eight grandchildren: Peyton, Jared and his wife Kirsten, Lacey and her husband Ryan, Caitlin and her husband Quinton, Jacob, Tanner, Mari and Rachel. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Gillespie, sister, Maxine Cunningham, brothers David Gillespie and Charlie Bill Gillespie. Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Conroe on November 8, 2017 from 1pm to 2pm with the Celebration of Life Service at 2pm with Dr. Charles Walton, Bro. Merle Blado and Bro. Byron Reeves officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in honor of John Gillespie to Volunteer Christian Builders.
