John Winfrey Smith, 59, peacefully passed, with friends and family by his side, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 following a hard fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife, Tammie Smith of Montgomery; his sons, Kenneth Berry Smith of Montgomery and Jeremy Smith of Houston; his grandchildren, Whitney Smith, Hayden Smith, and Cheyenne Smith; his sister, Betty Jo Foster and husband, Darwin, from Montgomery; numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins; ................and countless amazing friends, considered to be family. Born in Conroe, Texas, and raised in Montgomery, he is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth (Williams) Smith and sister Beverly Wagstaff. Following a lifetime in the iron working industry, John's true passion was for the outdoors and his family. He loved the seclusion of the woods and you would often find him hanging out on his porch with his wonderful wife, Tammie, whom he adored. Another source of immense joy in his life were his grandchildren. Whitney, Hayden, and Cheyenne, your pawpaw treasured every minute that he spent with you. The family would like to say a special thank you to family friend, Sarah Hillis, for being there to help Tammie and John through his illness and passing.
Family will receive visitors at a viewing on Sunday, April 9th from 5pm-8pm, at Metcalf Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 2pm, at Metcalf Funeral Home.
