Joe, 85, of The Woodlands, TX, left behind a legacy of love, kindness, integrity and fond memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew him. He was born on a farm in Cass County, IA, earned a BA from NW Missouri State and MBA from Creighton University. Joe served in the Army, including a tour in Korea. He worked for Northern Natural Gas/Enron in Omaha and Houston for 24 years as a programmer, systems designer and manager. He retired from Administaff/Insperity. Joe enjoyed all sports and played many, including quarterbacking his high school team to a state championship, and many years of bowling, baseball and golf with friends and family. He rarely missed a sporting, dance or school event with grandkids.
Joe was a devoted husband of 58 years, sharing a bond with his beloved wife, Donna, that served as an inspiration to many. Their partnership was built on a foundation of mutual respect, understanding and devotion, a testament to the enduring power of love. As a proud father of two, Popsy was a source of guidance, wisdom and unwavering support. He instilled values of compassion, perseverance and resilience, and his love will continue to guide them through life’s journey with their loving husbands. To his five grandchildren, Papa was a source of boundless patience, time and affection. He delighted in their presence, cherishing time together and imparting to them the wisdom of his years and his love of sports. Joe will be fondly remembered for his warm smile and gentle nature. May his soul rest in eternal peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Survivors include Wife, Donna Zuckweiler Bopp; Daughters, Julie Bopp Gilbert & George, Kathie Jo Heath & Brent; Grandchildren, Madison Heath, George Gilbert, Parker Heath, Rylie Heath and Jackson Gilbert. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Izetta Anderson Bopp; and his big brother, Walter Bopp.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on July 20, 2026, 11:15 am, at Houston National Cemetery Chapel, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory. There will be a reception immediately following the service at American Heritage Funeral Home 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston 77038 (directly across from cemetery)
