Judy was born on January 2nd, 1940, to Marion and Tavy Ford in Coleman County, Texas. She was raised in Trickham, Texas and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1958 as valedictorian (and class president, captain of the basketball team, head cheerleader and homecoming queen). She married Morris Straughan in August of that same year in a tiny church in Trickham, Texas.
Judy was an active and devoted servant of the Conroe community for over fifty-five years. She served in countless ways, often through her church, the First Methodist Church of Conroe. She served as president of the United Methodist Women, was a member of the Susie Hill Circle for 40+ years, taught Sunday school and was a faithful member of her Beacon Class.
She also owned her own insurance agency and loved helping her clients, nearly always at no charge. She was a member of the Houston Association of Life Underwriters and obtained the prestigious Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF) designation.
Above all, she was a faithful Christian, a loving wife, an extraordinary mother and an inspiring grandmother. Judy is now in her heavenly home, fully healed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Morris Straughan; her sister, Peggy Ford Miller; her brother, James S. Ford; and her granddaughter Emily Ann Deyoe. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Straughan and his wife, Deborah; daughter, Jeri Straughan Deyoe and her husband, Ray; her very special grandsons, Colin Deyoe and his wife Michaela, Grant Deyoe; and her sister, Mary Rutherford.
She will be greatly missed by those she loved and those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to either Habitat for Humanity with whom Judy loved to work, the Dementia Society Inc., the First Methodist Church of Conroe or the Trickham Cemetery Association Inc.
A celebration of life for Judy will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas with a reception to follow.
