Julia Konigsfeld

Julie Konigsfeld was not just a mom to five kids, but also to half the neighborhood. She grew up in West Hampton Beach with her five sisters. She worked at the resorts there getting to hobnob with the rich kids, and as an usherette at the movie theater so she could watch Cary Grant movies for free. She and her youngest sister Ollie used to watch the Rose Parade and dreamed of living in Southern California. After hearing Bing Crosby sing "I'll Make the San Fernando Family My Home" the deal was done and off they went. She was taken under the wing of Max Grossman, a well to do attorney in Panorama City, as his legal secretary and her career was set. Julie met Al, fresh out of the air force, and her sister Ollie met his friend Lee. While Ollie and Lee moved back to New York, Julie and Al settled in for the duration. Ups and downs, houses, businesses, and investments finally saw them retiring to Las Vegas in 1991. They square danced their way across the country and got to spend their time traveling until Al died in 2007. She still had Al's brother Bill and all their many friends and had a full life. Up until 2016 we all joked tell me the day and the time and I will tell you where mom is. She was in three bowling leagues, worked the altar guild and church thrift store, and went to buffets and casinos in between. October of 2016 a botched surgery left her using a walker, but that didn't keep her down. However the lockdowns of 2020 put a damper on things, but her daughter Cheryl insisted on friends coming over for cards and dominos, and a daily walk around the neighborhood. Fast forward to 2025 and she and Cheryl settled into a new house in Texas which Cheryl quickly set to making the perfect garden setting for hanging out with the new neighbors. She didn't get to see the fruits of all that (although she did get fresh peaches from the newly planted peach tree) but the all the flowers planted know why they are there and will bloom season after season in tribute. Love you mom, and a good job done.
