Kevin was raised in Shepherd, Texas, and graduated from Shepherd High School. Through the years, he was cherished by those who knew him—remembered for a steady kindness, a compassionate heart, and a gentle way of showing up for others. Just as enduring was his humor; Kevin had a gift for bringing lightness into a room and always tried to make everyone laugh.
Kevin found deep enjoyment in the simple, meaningful things: hunting, drawing and sketching, and caring for animals—especially his best friend, “Cowboy.” His compassion was evident in the time he gave each week volunteering at the Conroe Animal Shelter, where he helped walk the shelter dogs. He also loved to sing, sharing that joy freely with family and friends.
In the community, Kevin offered his time and hands-on help at the rodeo arena at the Cowboy Church in Montgomery, serving in ways that reflected his kind-hearted nature and the respect he held for others.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Evelyn Dodd, and Edna Settle. He is survived by his children, Jesse King and Jessica King; his grandchildren, Evelyn and Wesley; his mother, Cindy Finley and husband David; his father, Wayne Settle; his step-siblings, Jackie Wieghat (Jason) and Bobby Finley (Crystal); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Graveside services will be held at Big Creek Cemetery in Shepherd, Texas on Friday, October 30, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Located at FM 2666 and Big Creek Cemetery Road in Shepherd, TX 77371.
