Laurie Sue Shannon McCranor, 57, of New Waverly, Texas, passed away on July 4, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. Laurie was born in San Antonio, Texas to Dr. Ira and Hazel Shannon on June 15, 1956. She went to high school at Conroe High School and graduated in 1973. She went on to earn a degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. Laurie’s main career passion was building design which started with Shannon-McCranor Enterprises, a business she started with her husband. Her work as a building designer can be seen throughout the residential areas of Lake Conroe and the area surrounding The Woodlands. She later became a Math teacher at Willis High School. Her teaching philosophy was to teach to the student and their needs not just how to pass the tests. She was involved in the local Coushatta Camellia Society, and served as their vice president. She enjoyed spending her time gardening and listening to a variety of musicians. Laurie could be a stubborn woman, but was non-judgmental, very loving, and accepting of everyone around her. This was obvious to anyone who met her as she conveyed this life philosophy as a wife, mother, teacher, and lifelong friend to many. Laurie is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Ira and Hazel Shannon; her parent in-laws William Francis Sr. and Genevieve McCranor; and grandchildren, Angel Baby and Eathan Ebert McCranor. Laurie is survived by her husband, Bill McCranor af New Waverly, Texas; her son, Billy McCranor and his wife Amanda; her daughter, Shannon McCranor; her grandchild, Molly McCranor; siblings, Mike Shannon and his wife Caroline, Steve Shannon and his wife Sonja, and Cindy Manning and her husband Mike; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
