Mandy Mae Roark Johnson, age 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away March 18, 2011 in Conroe, Texas. Mandy was born October 18, 1923 in Humble, Texas. Mandy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Delbert (Dick) Johnson, Sr., great grandson, Cade Johnson and her six siblings.
Mandy, known by her loved ones as Nana, is survived by her loving daughter and caretaker, Helen Johnson, faithful and devoted son, Delbert Johnson, Jr. and his wife Delann, grandson Paul Johnson and his wife Julie, granddaughter Rachael Archer and her husband John, great grandchildren Reagan and Lauren Archer and Jordyn and Ryan Johnson. Special nieces: Betty Roark and Billye Frerichs and numerous relatives and friends.
After graduating from Conroe High School, Mandy married the love of her life Delbert (Dick) Johnson. Mandy worked for J. C. Penney for many years in the ladies department where she made many friends from Conroe and the surrounding area. These friendships remained throughout her life. Once her grandchildren were born she retired to enjoy spending time with and babysitting them. After they started school, Nana began working with her son and his father-in-law at Wise Exterminating. During these years she became an integral part of the growing company. Several years later she finally retired for good so that she and Honey could spend time taking their camper to Lake Limestone fishing or attending the Bluegrass musical festival with their friends.
Family was the most important thing to Nana. She took pride in all that he children and grandchildren accomplished and loved them unconditionally. Nana and Honey were permanent fixtures at all games of baseball, football, volleyball or softball that their kids and grandkids participated in. Nana was a wonderful cook. She reveled in cooking all our favorite dishes and took pride as we all overindulged ourselves. Not knowing how many would be at her table for a meal never phased Nana since she could have a meal for two or twenty without notice.
The family would like to thank for medical team: Dr. Michael Chang, Dr. James Baker and Dr. George Boyle. A special thanks to Dr. Neeland for his dedication and perseverance in providing excellent health care to Nana over the years. Much gratitude goes to the staff at Davita Dialysis Center who truly made three trips a week for the past 4-1/2 years as enjoyable as possible for her. To the members of Mims Baptist Church where Nana was a member for over 50 years, thank you for all the prayers, phone calls and visits. And last but not least, thank you to her roommate at Conroe Health Center, Margaret Aaron, for being her friend and guardian in her last precious months.
Pallbearers for their great aunt will be Rick Frerichs, Vince Johnson, Keith Moore, Bart Rosprim, Craig Wiggins and Keith Wiggins.
Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home Sunday, March 20th from 4-7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Cashner Colonial Chapel Monday, March 21st at 10:00 am with graveside services following at Copeland Chapel Cemetery, Montgomery, TX.
