Margaret Lou Mason was born Dec. 24, 1932, to Minnie and Asa McClurg in Daisetta, Texas. She moved to Liberty in 1943 and graduated from Liberty High School in 1949 where she was drum major for the Liberty Panther Band. Margaret married the love of her life, Fred Mason in 1950, and moved to Newgulf, TX, where they raised their four children. While in Newgulf, she was member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed Boling High School sports, and was involved in all of her children's activities. Through the years, Margaret worked at the Wharton County Tax Office, the Gulf Coast Medical Center, and Wharton County Junior College. Together Fred and Margaret enjoyed horses and trail rides, gardening, and Aggie Football. Fred and Margaret were also known for cuttin' a rug, and even won a number of dance contests as they danced the jitterbug, the waltz, and the two-step. Upon Fred's retirement, they moved to Panorama Village in 1984. Margaret worked at Gullo Toyota in Conroe and later retired to enjoy more time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family believes she actually spent her extra time perfecting her recipes for pound cake and coconut pies. Among her greatest joys in life was hosting family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have wonderful memories of Grandmommy's famous holiday goodies including peanut butter balls, fudge, gingerbread houses, and gingerbread men. The legacy Margaret leaves for the generations that follow her is that of living a contented life in a life-long commitment of marriage, and of serving others in the simple things of life. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 58 years, Fred Mason, and son, Doug Mason. Survivors include her three daughters Sheri Jackson and husband, Jimmy; Beverly Matula and husband, Tommy; Vicki Bishop and husband, Eric; and daughter-in-law JoAnn Placette and husband, John. Grandchildren include Cylinda Konvicka and husband, David; Kevin Smith and wife, Julie; Brian Wenzel and wife, Mariana; Brent Wenzel and wife, Kelly; Beau Bishop and wife, Amy; Chase Bishop and wife, Kayla; Jaclyn Lepien and husband, Michael; Zachary Mason; Natalie Ford and husband Russ. Great grandchildren include Blayne, Brett, and Brynn White and Kyle and Abby Konvicka; Kenslie Smith; Cooper and Hadley Wenzel; Liam, Elliott, and Olivia Bishop; Camden and Mason Bishop; Cadon, Ayla, and Eden Lepien; Logan and Sawyer Ford. Margaret is also survived by a brother in law, Bill Mason, and four sister in laws, Linda Mason, Nelle Mason, Lily Mason, and Vinnie Mason, and their respective families.
