We announce with deep sadness the passing of Margarette (Margie) Cecilia Dunegan, who was called home to her Heavenly Father on May 30, 2026. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 5, 1934, Margie met the end of her earthly journey with the same grace and fortitude that defined her life. She passed away peacefully at the ECU Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina, held in the loving arms of her daughter, Debora Maria Rogers, while her granddaughter, Juliana Nicole Burbage, sang sacred melodies by her side, ushering her into eternal rest.
Margie lived a vibrant, active life, fiercely refusing to let her earthly ailments slow her down. Grounded in her deep-rooted Catholic faith, she was the spiritual cornerstone of her family and served faithfully as their primary prayer warrior, lifting them up daily in devotion and through the Holy Rosary.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Daniel Lemberg; her mother, Margaret Bertha Lemberg; her beloved husband, James (Jim) Eugene Dunegan; her siblings, John Daniel Lemberg, Jr., Paul Vernon Lemberg, Carl Patrick Lemberg, Marie Doloris Kitchell, Louella Ann Lahmeyer, and Francis Joseph Lemberg; and one grandchild, Colton Jeffrey Rogers, and two great-grandchildren, Christian Lucas Harvey, and Marcus Ryan Harvey.
She is survived by her six children: son James Eugene Dunegan, Jr., daughter Cynthia Lynn Dunegan, son David Michael Dunegan, son John Daniel Dunegan, daughter Debora Maria Rogers, and daughter Cristina Diana Belcher. She also leaves behind a rich legacy of 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. All were raised under her solid guidance in faith, integrity, empathy, and love, forever blessed by the example of her Catholic witness.
An adventurous soul, Margie loved to travel and play golf. Alongside her husband, she raised her six loving children across the globe, creating homes filled with faith and warmth in New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Argentina, Libya, Indonesia, California, Oklahoma, Colombia, Turkey, Russia, Alaska, Iraq, and North Carolina. Wherever she lived, she planted deep roots in her community and put her faith into action through charity and service. She was a dedicated member of Meals on Wheels, the Literacy Council, the Bridge Club, and the Red Hat Club, and proudly served as the President of the Conservatory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located near the downtown area at 109 N. Frazier St., Conroe, TX 77301.
The interment of cremains will follow at Cashner Funeral Home & Cemetery, 801 FM 3083 Road, Conroe, TX 77301. Her ashes will be placed next to Jim’s.
May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
In lieu of floral arrangements, the family kindly requests that remembrances be made to two of Jim and Margie’s favorite charities, reflecting their lifelong commitment to serving Christ in the poor:
• The Salvation Army
• Star of Hope
