Maria Anita passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, at home in Montgomery, Texas. She was 75.
Mrs. Garza was born in Alamo, Texas to Maria Perez (Garcia) and Victorio Alvarado (Gloria) in addition to 2 brothers and 5 sisters. They lived on a farm where her father worked until 5th grade. These were her favorite memories of her family. At an early age of 16, she married 19-year-old Enrique in Pharr, Texas where they lived between migrant farm working in Nebraska, California, Colorado and amongst other states until they found their forever home of Conroe, Texas.
She and Enrique (Henry) were one of the first Hispanic families to move to the city of Conroe in the late 60’s where she was a housewife raising their 4 children until they were of school age. She then worked at numerous places including The Fire Sale, The City of Conroe Parks and Recreation, and Montgomery County UTMB Health services where she retired from after 16 years. Maria Anita always had the love of speaking to people and being in sales as your favorite Avon Representative, where she won many ribbons, trophies, and Albee Dolls (President’s Club Award) that she was extremely proud of. She was adored by all who knew her. Her kindness, sweetness, and selflessness are what she will be remembered by.
Along with her many accomplishments, she loved to crochet, cook for her family and friends, decorate for special occasions such as weddings, quinceañeras, and loved being with her grandchildren. She also loved her favorite singer SELENA!
She was a member of The Ark Family Church where she was on the welcoming committee and was a familiar greeter. She was also involved in helping with the Spanish pastors in translating for the church.
These last few months she truly enjoyed watching her digital picture frame full of the joys of her life, friends-family-AND ESPECIALLY HER GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN… Juliana, Mariah, and Gabriella.
She is survived by; Son, Henry Garza, Jr., children, Laura (Tyler), Jeremy, and Jacob; Son, Sam Garza, wife Roxane; children, Sammy, Megan, her daughters Juliana and Mariah; Nic, his daughter, Gabriella; Her Daughter Cynthia, and son, Trey Hernandez, fiancé Mindy; Her Daughter Gracie, husband Stuart Harvey; children, Courtney, her husband JB; and Cailey.
A celebration of life for Maria will be held Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 East White Oak Terrace, Conroe, TX 77304. The service will be officiated by Rev. Lucas Olivarez of Sugar Creek Baptist Church of Houston.
