Marie was born to her birth parents, Jesse and Hazel Kochel, the middle of three children. She and her two sisters were raised by their maternal aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Harry Shaw. Marie and her sisters were confirmed at Bethesda Covenant Church and graduated from East High School in Rockford.
With steady diligence and quiet integrity, Marie devoted more than 23 years to her work as a bank teller. She began her banking career in Rockford and returned to it after her young child-rearing years. She worked at First Interstate (now Wells Fargo) and First National Bank in Conroe, where her patient, attentive manner and genuine care made people feel known and valued—often greeted by name, as though no one was ever a stranger for long.
On August 17, 1968, Marie married Jim Warren Erickson. Their close marriage was the foundation of a home defined by loyalty, constancy, and love. Together they raised two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer. Marie made her family a priority, faithfully showing up for the activities that mattered to her children and offering the kind of everyday reassurance that never grew routine—making sure, day by day, that her family heard the words “I love you.”
Marie’s thoughtfulness was evident in the small, careful ways she brought beauty and comfort into ordinary life. She enjoyed crafting and was an excellent seamstress when needed. She collected little bells, proudly displayed on a shelf in her home, and she was an avid reader who appreciated a good book. Her generosity also shone through in her gift giving—choosing presents with care, guided by what she knew others would truly enjoy.
Marie’s faith was a steady presence throughout her life. She was involved at Grace Lutheran Church in Montgomery, TX, and served for many years on the altar guild. Beyond the church, she extended compassion and welcome to those around her, often acting as her own personal “Welcome Wagon” to new neighbors—learning names, listening with sincerity, and offering help when it was needed.
Those who knew Marie remember a woman who could put others at ease with remarkable warmth and honest kindness. She modeled hard work and consideration for others, and she carried a memory that remained strikingly clear over the years. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and she loved them deeply.
Marie was preceded in death by her birth parents, Jesse and Hazel Kochel; her parents, Harry and Myrtle Shaw; and her sisters, Barbara Shank and Hazel(Hazie) Sadewater.
Marie is survived by her son, Jeffrey Erickson, and daughter-in-law, Robin Erickson; her daughter, Jennifer Roberson (Erickson), and son-in-law, Bill Roberson; and her three grandchildren, Maxwell Roberson, Nolan Roberson, and Abigail Roberson.
