Marie Lynn Werner, 68, passed away on October 14, 2026, following a fiercely fought battle with cancer. Born November 25, 1957, Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and the steady pillar of her family; a true matriarch.
Marie shared 48 years of marriage with her husband, Danny Werner. Together, they built a life and raised two sons, Sean and William Werner. She was a proud grandmother to Colton Werner and to Saria and Sofia, her granddaughters by love rather than blood. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandra Dilly and Cheryl McDavid.
A graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in Education, Marie devoted 33 years to education. She spent 25 of those years at Popham Elementary in Del Valle ISD and another five at Stewart Creek Elementary in Montgomery ISD. Even retirement couldn't quite convince her to stop teaching, and she continued tutoring students after leaving the classroom.
Marie leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and generations of students who benefited from her dedication to teaching. Her influence on both will be felt for lifetimes.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303, on November 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Arthur H. Dilly Chair in Pediatric Oncology at the University of Texas, or a charity of your choice. Both organizations reflect Marie's lifelong commitment to children and the belief that investing in their futures is a cause worth supporting.
