Marion Eldridge Williams Jr.

Born on February 25, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Marion was the son of Marion Eldridge Williams Sr. and Avis Lucille Sims Williams. He attended Fair Park High School before continuing his education at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Throughout his life, he called Louisiana, Texas, Colorado and New Mexico home, carrying with him the warmth and kindness that made friends wherever he lived.

Marion proudly served his country in the Louisiana National Guard. He completed Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and after six years of service, received an honorable discharge.

At just 19 years old, Marion began his career with Tennessee Gas Pipeline as a draftsman. Through hard work and dedication, he advanced to become a corrosion technician and later a corrosion supervisor. After a remarkable 40-year career, he took early retirement at the age of 60. Never one to slow down, he continued working as a contractor for El Paso Oil into his late 70s.

On October 3, 1970, he married the love of his life, Jerrie Helen Williams. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and unwavering commitment. They were married for over 55 years. To those who knew and loved him, he was simply "Sonny," a nickname that perfectly reflected the warmth, joy, and kindness he shared so freely with everyone he met. He never met a stranger and had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcomed and valued. Thoughtful, compassionate, generous, and quick with a smile, Sonny had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.

Blessed with both a sharp mind and a quick wit, Sonny was known for his remarkable ability to tell a story, engage in thoughtful conversation, and make people laugh. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world and genuinely enjoyed learning something new every day. Whether sharing a story, offering a thoughtful perspective, or simply enjoying a good debate, Sonny's knowledge, wit, and way with words left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Sonny enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains of Colorado, and found great joy in discovering new places and experiences. Colorado was their home away from home and they visited it every year for 30 plus years. He was an avid golfer in his younger years, had a deep appreciation for music, and loved collecting things that told a story. His greatest passions were trains and Native American art, especially Southwestern pottery and Kachina dolls. Many of his favorite pieces came from trips to the reservations of New Mexico, where he enjoyed meeting the artists and bringing home a piece of their culture. He also had a deep appreciation for history, particularly the Civil War, and enjoyed collecting Civil War memorabilia along with artwork, Beanie Babies, McDonald's collectibles, and many other treasures. Each collection reflected Sonny's lifelong curiosity and appreciation for the people, places, and stories behind them.

Above all, Sonny also known as Papa, loved his family. He created a home where people felt welcomed, accepted, and unconditionally loved. He encouraged curiosity, shared what he knew, and found joy in teaching others. Whether through conversation, laughter, or simply spending time together, he made lasting memories with those he loved most.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Eldridge Williams Sr. and Avis Lucille Sims Williams; brother, Harry Duke and his wife Edna; sister, Claudis Herring and her husband Burl.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jerrie; his daughter, Gina Baldwin and her husband, Jon; his cherished granddaughters, Brooke Baldwin and Alyssa Baldwin; his brother, Albert Earl Williams and wife Mary Maxine Williams; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the assurance that his faith has become sight. Marion lived each day with gratitude, loved his family deeply, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, curiosity, humor, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas. Interment will follow, with light refreshments served afterward as family and friends gather to share memories and celebrate Sonny's life.
