Margie was the oldest of 5 children and 1 bonus “ adopted” brother joined the family in his teens from a neighboring farm. She was raised on her parents diary farm in York, New York . Her sibling’s affectionately refer to her as “Sarge” as she was in charge of them while her parents were working the farm. Margie graduated from York Central School in York, New York in 1958. She briefly attended secretarial school in Rochester, New York after high school before her marriage. She married Ralph Strickland Jenks in 1959 and lived in Retsof, NY. They had 4 children together between 1961 and 1970. Margie remarried in 1973 to Charles Gavitt and they had a daughter together. They lived in Dansville, NY raising a blended family of children from both their prior marriages until they divorced in 1975. Margie and her 5 children moved to Spring, Texas with her last husband, Frank F. Chapman in 1978. They were very active in Faith Methodist Church and enjoyed making new friends the Spring area.
They bought land in Montgomery , Texas in 1980 and started building a home and the youngest children attended Montgomery ISD until high school. Margie was very involved in various school organizations in both MISD and later Willis ISD where she was active with the Key Club and Debate Team for youngest child, Darlene.
Margie was a devoted and loving mother, of 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 6 great granddaughters. She was a good friend to many, a caring neighbor to all, and an inspiration to her family.
She was widowed in 1995 and was a welcome addition to her daughter’s homes. Providing love, childcare and encouragement while they completed college and began careers.
Margie passed peacefully at home in Conroe, Texas on hospice surrounded by her children and family. The family was blessed with the time to visit and say goodbye’s in person.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Chapman in 1995. Her parents, Warren and Doris Curry, her brother, Garrey Curry. She suffered the loss of her first child, Kenneth William Jenks II, at the age of 21 in 1983.
Margie is survived by her brothers Alexander Patterson Curry of York, New York, Warren Henry Curry II ( JR) and spouse Susan of Gainesville, Florida, and Ray Paulson and spouse, Laura, of Liverpool, New York. Her only sister, Sharon Curry Barth of Retsof, New York and numerous nephews and nieces. Her sons, David Jenks of Conroe, Texas and Douglas Jenks of Fort Worth, Texas. Her daughters, Marcia Jenks Holbrook of Conroe, Texas and Darlene Gavitt Kennedy Cryer and husband, Russell Cryer of Benbrook, Texas. Her stepchildren : Linda, Charles Jr., Bonnie, Jimmy and David Gavitt. Grandchildren: Megan Jenks Hanni, Kenneth William Jenks III, David “ Stephen” Jenks, Mark Anthony Jenks, Matthew Jenks, Micheal Jenks, Cody Dwayne Holbrook, Marissa Lenee Holbrook Conley, Savannah Skye Kennedy, Isaiah Storm Kennedy and Darrien “ Sunshine” Kennedy and 6 great granddaughters.
The family appreciates and thanks the staff of Allumine Hospice Conroe, Texas for the care and support provided to Margie and her family in the last week of her life. Margie and her family are devoted, longtime supporters of hospice care and the end of life beliefs including quality of life over quantity of life.
