Marlin Horace “Bubba” Nichols, 63, was called home by our Lord on Monday, February 18, 2019 at his home in New Waverly, Texas. Bubba was a loving husband, devoted father, the best “Big Poppa” to his beloved grandchildren, a caring son, a supportive brother, a doting uncle and friend, colleague and neighbor to many. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, he commanded attention and often those who were blessed by his life and presence would hang on his every word because there was surely a joke in it somewhere and if you blinked, you might miss it. The world was a better place because he was in it. He has a legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of those he loved, his advice and jokes will resonate in the hearts of family and friends and his family will be forever trying to replicate his fabulous home cooked, smoked or barbeque meals to honor him.
He was born, one of six children, to Marlin Horace Nichols and Emilie Anderson Nichols on September 03, 1955 in Houston, Texas. Marlin was a proud and native Texan and called Texas his home his entire life, living in the Houston area his entire life. He was welcomed to his heavenly home by his father, Marlin Horace Nichols; his parents in love, Wesley and Gloria Joan Forse; his brothers in love, Albert McGullion and Charlie Daniel; sister in love, Kathie McGullion. Bubba leaves the love of his life and best friend of forty years, Sandra Forse Nichols, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond of love and devotion; his greatest accomplishments, his sons, Dustin Nichols and wife Kimber, Chad Nichols and girlfriend Erin Talley; mother, Emilie Nichols; sisters, Sheila McLemore and Sharon Sanders and husband, Rickie; brothers, Martin “Marty” Nichols and girlfriend, Michea Ford, Marvin “Scooter” Nichols and wife Nancy, Mark Nichols and wife Cindy; sister in law, Lisa Reasor; nieces and nephews, Michelle Broddrick and husband Marc, Kyle Nichols and wife Sunni, Matthew Nichols and fiancé Kylea, Kaylon Newcomb and husband Ryan, Megan Smith and husband Michael, Melissa Nichols, Brady Wright and wife Amanda, Matthew Reasor; great nieces and nephews Cade and Colby Lynn Broddrick, Huxley Resweber and Honor Nichols, Bella Wright, , Rylynn Reasor, Carter Wright, and Brayden Reasor The greatest joys of his life and who gave him the name Big Poppa were his grandchildren Lane and Gage Nichols. He also leaves behind his many fur babies including but not limited to Woodrow, Brodie, Smokey and Bandit.
Bubba was a highly respected loyal employee and leader of Schlumberger. During his many years of employment there, he was able to travel the world. He worked for Schlumberger for 20 years before retiring to his home in New Waverly to spend more time with his wife; to dote on his grandchildren; to tinker with home projects and to take care of the many animals he loved. The values, integrity and standards that Bubba had both in his personal and professional life commanded the respect of his family, friends and colleagues. He was not a man to “buck the system” but if he could create a better system, he was unstoppable. Bubba’s dedication and love for his friends and family showed his tender heart. He taught many colleagues through the years and made many lifelong friends from grade school to retirement, many of which are still close friends. He never shied away from a challenge and often inspired those around him. When returning home after trips abroad, he would often share stories and recipes that he had experienced and often brought home wears and art from the places he traveled, some of which the family still treasures. He had a lifelong love affair with outdoor cooking.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you take a moment to reach out to your loved ones over dinner, take a walk in the country, adopt an animal, lend a hand to a friend or neighbor, make a donation to a charity of your choice, “mend a fence” or do something that brings you joy and that you know will warm the hearts of those you love. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by you and your family. The family asks that you lift them in prayer as they mourn this tremendous loss of big love in their lives and as they cope with giving him back to the Lord, who first gave him to us.
Cheers, Bubba, to one hell of a great life and legacy. A life well lived, exemplified by the legacy of your loving family.
