

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mary was welcomed into the Lord's arms on Saturday, August 2nd, 2025. Her journey with cancer demonstrated remarkable courage, lasting over 10 years. She beat it into remission multiple times, truly a warrior showcasing unwavering strength and spirit. Mary passed at the age of 74 in The Woodlands TX
Mary was born January 31st, 1951, to parents Neil Baird Sr and Esther Betterton in Enid, Oklahoma. As a child, she loved to spend time outdoors which began her lifelong love for nature and fishing. She graduated from Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth TX in 1969. As an adult she moved to the Houston area, living in various locations, settling near Lake Conroe.
Mary diligently worked her way from as cashier to a human resources director. She became a paralegal and using that knowledge along with the “school of hard knocks,” advanced to HR director positions in hospitals, dental offices, and the fire department. Two of her favorite side jobs were driving horse drawn carriages and serving as a wedding DJ. She happily retired from multiple careers in 2020.
A devout Christian, Mary attended services at the Light Church of Willis, where she touched many hearts in hospitality. She spent hours fishing on Lake Conroe from her pontoon boat. Mary enjoyed traveling with friends and family to destinations such as Hawaii, Las Vegas and Belize, amount others.
Mary dearly loved her dogs and fostered many through Animal Shelter Volunteers of Texas. Comforting her in the last few months of her life were five dogs. Snickers and Toro are now living with her grandsons, Matthew and Kenneth and their families. Axel, Coconut and Buddy that are back with ASVT and are available for adoption. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Neil Baird, Jr and Melvin Styles. She is survived by her beloved daughters Regina Diepenhorst who lived with her, and she cared for these last ten years. Her youngest, Shelly Murkot and Liz Parker. Many cherished nieces and nephews and a sister, Kathryn Williams, who lives in the Fort Worth area. She leaves behind the legacy of numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of which were the lights of her life. All the lessons of love, selflessness, integrity, empathy, kindness and hard work will be forever forged on their hearts.
Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things have passed away.”
