Mary “Joyce” Lane was born October 21, 1936 in Burke, Texas to the late Octavia and Oliver Lane. She was first born to twin Kenneth Lane and would later grow up in the Waco Methodist Home For Children with brothers Glen and Kenneth till the age of 16.
At 18 she married Lyman “Hoot” Bryant and had two daughters Brenda and Karen.
Joyce was a devoted and hard working mother. She owned and operated numerous hair salons in Texas and worked as a stylist till the age of 67. She had a passion for reading, bowling, writing poetry and watching the Houston Astros. Joyce was a member of the International Society of Poets. She received the Editors Choice Award in 1994 from the National Library of Poetry and was also selected as one of their “Best Poets of 1995”. Joyce also had numerous poems published by the National Library of Poetry over the years.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Octavia & Oliver Lane and her brothers Glen and Kenneth Lane. Joyce is survived by her two daughters Brenda Adams & Karen Duncan, brothers Sony & Johnny Lane, Grand Children Kale Naegeli, Jordan Dodson & Colby Dodson and Great Grand Son Ezra Luhrman.
Joyce always had a beautiful way with words. She often quoted her poem “Smell the Roses”. “Life is Fleeting, better to take a little time, not hesitate. To Stop and smell the roses, before its too late”.
She lived a full and happy life and we were all honored to have her in our lives.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 10:00am in Garden Park Cemetery with Pastor Merle Blado officiating.
