Heaven is pleased to announce the long anticipated arrival of an epic comedic storytell-er, Neville Gregory (Greg) Owens after an impactful 97 year earthly journey. He passed peacefully in his sleep on the morning of October 12, 2026.
A remarkably intelligent and clever man, there was nothing he could not build, fix or re-pair. His woodworking skills were impressive (as was his custom garage - aka, shop). His greatest joy was spending quality time with family and friends, especially if the time involved fishing, hunting, skiing, boating, or traveling. He was most known for his humor, gentle loving spirit, and engrossing storytelling.
His formative years during the Great Depression and Texas Oil boom in rural Texas while the family ran an exotic pet store out of their log cabin were fodder for his later sto-ries about the exploits of this mischievous child! He then moved to Houston, graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, was a member of the Cavaliers Drinking Club Fraternity (he conveniently left off the ‘Drinking Club’ part when mentioning it to his family) and served in the Army in Washington D.C. during the Korean War (where he accrued even more stories). Greg had long career as an engineer at both Schlumberger and Cameron/Cooper Iron Works.
He was blessed to have two great loves during his life, Ann Markey Owens [deceased] and Betty Phelps Owens, for a 59 and 12 year marriage, respectively. Each became his best friend, travel companion and loyal partner. If you thought PDA was for love sick teens and newlyweds, you didn’t know Greg.
Greg and Ann welcomed daughters Laura Lee Owens and Janet Owens Allen (Conrad “Chip”), and grandchildren Ivan Garza [deceased] (Tracy), Crystal Garza Nieves (Car-melo), Tyler Allen and Casey Allen as well as great grandchildren Lance Garza, Sereni-ty Garza, Isabella Gotti, Anthony Garza, Carmela Nieves and Junerose Laura Nieves.
Later in life, Betty blessed Greg and his family with a larger extended family: stepchildren Jack Phelps (Karen) and Delaney Phelps Potter (John), and much-loved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Greg is proceeded in death by his first wife, Ann, grandson Ivan, his parents, Oliver Dew Owens and Aleece Zuber Owens, brother Robert “Bob” Owens, sister Patricia “Pat” Wil-kins as well as beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
We’d like to sincerely thank the wonderful team at Brookdale Champions for their loving, attentive care and bringing joy and entertainment to his final years.
