Oscar Earl Schank departed for Heaven on May 18, 2018. He was born on May 3, 1930, in Houston, Texas; the first of four sons to August L. and Edna Mae Teske-Schank. He graduated from Pasadena High School in 1949; and lived his early years in Genoa, Texas. He married Gloria Maxine Borchert on
June 18, 1950, at First Baptist Church in Genoa, where he was ordained as a deacon at age 25. He was also a member and former Chief of the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department.
The family relocated to Conroe, Texas in 1962; where he became a member and active deacon at First
Baptist Church of Groceville, in Cut and Shoot. He loved his church; and faithfully supported and participated in all church activities. He also supported the work of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He was a charter member of the Cut and Shoot Family Lions Club; and a Lifetime Member of the Texas Lions Camp, for children with disabilities. He received the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service from Lions International, in 2013.
Oscar was a partner and officer of Houston Pipe Benders. He retired, as President, in 1992; after thirty years of building it into an internationally recognized pipe fabricating company.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Gloria Maxine, son, George Schank, of Conroe and daughters Cathy Stanley and husband Mark of Nampa, Idaho, and Natalie Dempsey and husband Daniel, of New Waverly. Seven grandchildren, DeeAnn Schank, Audrey Schank, April Schank-Arnold, Darrell Paul, Daniel Paul, Rosanna Dempsey and Dustin Dempsey. Eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Brother, Robert Schank and wife Kathy, of Crosby, Texas. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, August L. Schank Jr. and Travis W. Schank.
The Schank family will welcome visitors to Cashner Funeral Home on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Curtis Halfourd and Brother Ron Vickers to officiate. Burial will follow in the Garden Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrell Paul, Daniel Paul, Dustin Dempsey, Lance Arnold, Riley Arnold and Corby Arnold. Honorary Pallbearers are Derrell Wright and John Bailey.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Texas Lions Camp.
