Otis spent his adult life serving others. He served his Country in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1964. His career in law enforcement began in Nacogdoches from 1965-1967 as a police officer. He went to work for Harris County Reserves as a Reserve Officer from 1977-1980. After that he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff from 1980-2000.
Otis, more commonly known to others as “OJ”, captured the hearts of many. After moving to Groveton in 2020, he became the music director at First Baptist Church of Glendale. Otis loved singing and serving the Lord. His memories will live on in the lives of many. Well done, good and faithful servant.
He is preceded in death by his father Garland T Johnson, mother Ella Maurine Johnson (Eanes), sister Patricia Maurine Snead (Johnson), brother James J Johnson, and daughter Kayla Johnson. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Johnson and grandchildren Garrett Bowles, Devin Powers, Blake Posinski, and Katelynn Posinski. Along with many long time friends.
A visitation for OJ will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Cashner Colonial Hall with burial to follow in Garden Park Cemetery.
