Pauline Tauer passed away peacefully on the morning of May 30, 2025, with her husband of 52 years holding her hand. The last 3 years had been exceedingly difficult for her medically, but she handled it with grace and dignity. We take comfort in the knowledge that she is at rest with her Lord and is now reunited with her father, mother, and stepmother Ellyn.
She was born Pauline Mary Stryk on December 2, 1942, in Muldoon Texas, the third child of Bill and Henrietta Stryk. She was raised on a small farm with her brother, Alfred, and sister, Evelyn, until she was three years old when they moved to a new farm in Moulton Texas. She attended the Novahrad school, a small, rural, two-room school about a mile from the farm. When the school was closed, she transferred to the Moulton public schools. In addition to the ever-present farm chores and her schoolwork, Pauline loved sports with a special passion for basketball, where she went to the state championship and received all-star recognition.
After graduation, Pauline married her high school sweetheart and moved to Houston. However, after seven years, she ended the marriage and had it annulled. During that transition, she met her current husband at the apartment complex where they both lived. After two years of dating, Pauline and Timothy Tauer were married on September 2, 1972. When her first daughter, Heather, was born on November 17, 1973, she decided to devote herself to raising her family - a commitment she never regretted and at which she excelled. Her second beautiful gift was her daughter Courtney, born July 13, 1976. To provide for the family, Tim’s career took Pauline and their daughters to many places both foreign and domestic. Pauline, always the supporting and encouraging wife, chose to approach these challenges with her usual sunny disposition and saw it as an adventure that took her to places she could have only imagined growing up on that small farm in Moulton.
When Tim retired in 1996, they were living in Allentown, Pennsylvania. To be closer to family and friends, they decided to move back to Houston. In 1997 they discovered Bentwater, a community that they both came to love. Being the social creature she was, she found many organizations and sporting opportunities to give her the outlets she both needed and enjoyed. She became active in the Bentwater Ladies, the Republic Women, the Garden Club, and many dining out and other social groups. She made many life-long friends in Bentwater that became more like family. Finally, when their daughters decided to relocate to this area, it made her world complete.
Pauline is survived by her husband Tim, her daughters Heather Reid and Coutney Tauer, her bother Alfred Stryk and wife Marie, and sister Evelyn Kassey and husband Michael. Also bother-in-law Brad Tauer and wife Joan, sister-in-law Cheri Seabers and husband John, and sister-in-law Michelle Ferrara and husband Greg. Also dear to her were stepsisters Earline Rais and husband Joe, Janet Ickert and husband Larry, and Theresa Nelson and husband Michael. Being from a good Catholic family, there are many numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
A celebration of her life will be held at Cashner Funeral Home (Conroe) starting with a visitation at 05:00PM on June 24th followed by a rosary at 6:30PM. Pauline wanted you to come dressed causal in your brightest summer colors. Funeral service will be on June 25th at 10:30AM at St. Mary Catholic Church (Plantersville) follows by a reception. The family wishes that any offering be sent to the Willis Assisted Living Unlimited Care Cottages who took such good care of her during her stay there.
