Ray Edwin Springfield was born October 16, 1934 in Seminole County, Oklahoma to Robert “Bob” and Helen Springfield. Ray and his siblings moved to Overton, Texas with his mother after his father unexpectedly succumbed to a heart attack when he was 13. Ray attended Kilgore Junior College, starring as quarterback of the football team and obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Houston. Ray met and married the mother of his boys, Barbara Roscoe, in Tyler where she was attending Kilgore College and was a member of the famous Kilgore Rangerettes. Ray and Barbara raised four boys; David, Craig, Scott and Todd, after moving to Houston, eventually settling in Oak Ridge North. Ray focused his energies on entrepreneurial adventures, first opening Sparkle Wash Corporation, and eventually owning one of the most successful Dodge dealerships in South Texas; Springfield-Robinson Dodge. Ray married Billie Gammons in 1989 and gained two stepdaughters, Theresa and Lannie. Ray passed away peacefully on August 25, 2012 surrounded by family after a brief illness. Family was always Ray’s love. His family and friends will always remember his contagious smile, his quick wit and humor, and his sons will especially treasure the incredible summer vacations and Christmas’ he enjoyed providing. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen; siblings, Barbara “Babs” VanHaverbeke, Royce and Fred, and son, Todd. Ray is survived by his wife Billie; sons, David, Craig and Scott; stepdaughters, Theresa Schrock and Lannie Appleby; grandchildren, Kate Springfield, Austin Cumbow, Dusty Springfield, Robby Springfield, Jessie Coward, David Appleby, Brittney Havard, Dawn Stabler and Kelly Schrock and by numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service to honor Ray’s life will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 3:00pm in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Pastor Rob King officiating.
