Rick was born on September 9, 1951 in Montpelier, VT to Alfred and Mary Chidester. He received his undergraduate degree from Northern Arizona University, and his law degree from University of New Hampshire in 1977. It was during his time in Washington, D.C. that he met the love of his life, Linda. On January 10th, 1981 they wed in Charleston, S.C.
Rick began his career working as an attorney before joining the State Department in 1981. He was a foreign service officer for 11 years, living throughout Central and South America. After he retired from the State Department, he went on to work for the U.S. National Laboratory System, and, most recently, for NASCO/NTEC, a part of the Sovereign Wealth Fund in Kuwait.
Rick lived a full life, and his greatest accomplishment and joy was his marriage to his wife Linda. Over the course of his 39 years married to Linda, they traveled extensively, lived all over the world, and raised two wonderful children, Robert and Patrick. Rick cherished his time with his family, his role as a husband and father, and his recent time as a grandfather to Jackson (3) and Eloise (1).
Rick spent many of his years living overseas, including Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico, Bolivia, and Kuwait. He was a man of passion and always fought for a cause, whether that cause was principle or service. Rick also had strong opinions, beliefs, and values, and he always spoke his mind, both to family and complete strangers. It did not matter whether you wanted to listen, but he was always sincere.
Rick had a passion for family, politics, the Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. During football season you could often find Rick watching the Packers while on the phone with his sister Mary. The volume of his voice would indicate his (dis)satisfaction with the game.
Rick is survived by his wife Linda, sons Robert (wife Stephanie) and Patrick, brother Alfred (wife Sandy), sister Mary (husband Scott), grandchildren Jackson and Eloise, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Richard will be held Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. A celebration mass will occur Monday, March 2, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N Frazier St, Conroe, Texas 77301.
