Richard Lamar Johns, “Johnny,” opened his eyes in the presence of the Lord on January 22, 2023, at the age of 76. Mr. Johns was a caring and devoted husband to his wife Carol Johns for 32 years, in addition to being a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather throughout his life. He spent the final weeks of his life surrounded and loved by his family and friends before passing peacefully at home on his ranch in Cleveland, Texas.
When you think of Richard many things come to mind, including his love for his family, his passion for racing, or long hot Texas summers working on his ranches in Crosby and Cleveland. Richard was a Christian man and spent his life working to build a better life for his family. He was a “jack-of-all-trades,” which was evident by his ventures in small business, from, “Mack’s Machines,” his automotive shop in Houston, to building race cars, and ultimately as a hard-working cattle rancher. But above all Richard was a family man. He provided priceless wisdom and knowledge to his children, grandchildren, family, and friends alike. At the drop of a hat, Mr. Johns would be there for you, and for that, he has left many forever touched.
Mr. Johns was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years Carol Joyce Johns, his son, Christopher Allen Johns, his parents Ruby Lee Johns and Pauline Lovins Johns, and his brother Ronald Johns. He is survived by his children Susan Johns-Kessner (Roger Kessner) of Cleveland, Texas, and Byron Elrod of Splendora. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Christopher Johns II, (Brittany Johns), Michael Johns, Shelbie Hill (Derek Hill), Rebecca Ard, and Rhys Moore. Seven great-grandchildren, Rylea, Ryder, and Ryan Hill, Caydence & Jerri Leigh Johns, Paizlea Johns, and Harper Barnett.
