Richelle Lynn Davis McDaniel passed away quietly at her home in Conroe, TX after a 13-year battle with breast cancer on December 8, 2022 at the age of 59. Richelle was born on November 8, 1963, in Redondo Beach, CA to April Ann Kyle and Richard Lynn Davis. Her father, Richard, passed away shortly before her birth. Richelle is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Christopher W. McDaniel, and their three children: daughter, Jordin R. McDaniel Bingham (husband Jeff), son, Capt. Steven W. McDaniel (wife Rachel Purinton), and daughter, Kelly E. McDaniel; her mother, April Bladh and stepfather, William Bladh; siblings, Lori Davis, Dan Bladh, Laura Moe, Tonya Burke, Kyle Bladh, and Faith Quick; and grandchildren, Kenton, McKinley, Karter, and Kolton Bingham, and Lucy, Emma, and Jane Richelle McDaniel. She also is survived by her cousin and confidante, Janette Willes and best friend and sister in spirit, Karen Bush.
The most important things to Richelle were first, her belief in Jesus Christ, her family, and education. Richelle was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in many capacities over her lifetime. She attended the local congregation in Conroe.
Richelle's greatest desire was for her family to stay close and to spend time with her family. She was raised in a his-hers-and-ours family that grew up as truly one family. One of her favorite activities was to take her family on a cruise at Christmas so the family to spend time together and make lasting memories. She is most proud of the fact that all her children graduated from college, live productive lives, and not once has any of them asked to live her basement. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved taking them on "adventures" in the neighborhood or the park.
She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in a career spanning 22 years. She worked briefly as a school nurse while her husband finished graduate school. After moving to Baton Rouge, LA for his first job, she trained in labor and delivery and mother/baby care and continued in this area for almost all her career. She also trained in pediatric oncology where she worked briefly at the same time as labor and delivery. She retired when she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2009.
While in college, Richelle was certified to scuba dive and she and Chris, an avid diver, spent many hours diving in southern California and all through out the Caribbean Sea and Mexico. Consequently, all her children became certified divers and diving became a family activity.
Richelle enjoyed playing tennis and actively participated in competitive tennis. In 2009, only a month before being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, she went to the Virginia state championship tournament where she finished as a runner-up in singles tennis in her age group. More recently, she picked up pickleball and enjoyed playing in the mornings at the Conroe Rec Center.
One of Richelle's favorite activities, call it a hobby, was to go to thrift stores and find valuable items someone had discarded. It was her version of prospecting for gold. She sold her finds on Ebay or gave them away as gifts. She always had something in the closet for the grandkids.
Richelle's life will be celebrated in a private event at her church. She will be buried in the LDS Cemetery in Sarah, MS.
