Rita Lois Winter

Rita Lois Johnson Winter, age 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on May 25, 1934, the first-born child of Jesse Milton Johnson and Nancy Vera Dunham Johnson. She grew up in McCamey, Texas. After graduating high school, she obtained her registered nurse education & training in Abilene, Texas from Hardin-Simons University, and worked a long career as a surgical nurse specialist.

Rita met the love of her life, Jerry Gene Winter, in Abilene Texas, where they began a 58-year loving marriage, raising their family, moving around the US and traveling the world, before retiring in Tiki Island, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her second son Randall Craig Winter, her husband Jerry G. Winter, Sr., and sister Patty Johnson May. She is survived by her children, first-born son, Jerry G. Winter Jr, and daughter, Anjelica Michelle Grant, and their respective spouses, Cheryl Haas Winter, and Curtis Grant. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Jimmy Thomas Johnson and sister-in-law Beverly Ganze Johnson, as well as 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nephews & nieces.

A small family gathering and graveside service will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.
