Robert Harold “Bobby” Burns, of Willis, Texas, passed away on November 17, 2025, in The Woodlands, Texas. Bobby was born in Houston, Texas on September 11, 1945, to Robert P. “Mugsy” Burns and Dorothy Mae Clem Burns.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deborah Ann Burns, and wife, Wilma McKnight Burns.
Bobby grew up in the Aldine area and graduated from Aldine High School in 1963 and later went on to graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After college, Bobby embarked upon his lengthy career in construction working for firms such as Spawglass, BD&B, and Paisan Construction, building mostly schools and churches. In 1979, he landed his dream job as Assistant Director of Planning and Construction for the Conroe Independent School District, where he remained for 31 years until his retirement as Director of Planning and Construction in 2011.
Bobby remained connected to CISD through his many friends and colleagues well after retirement and even undertook occasional consulting roles for the district and its contractors in his spare time.
After his second retirement, Bobby and his late wife Wilma enjoyed numerous cruises and vacations around the world. They also served together in several charity organizations benefiting Montgomery County youth.
Bobby enjoyed the company of his friends at his deer lease, his neighbors on Lake Conroe, and his fellow model aviation enthusiasts.
Bobby is survived by his son, Robert Stephen Burns and his wife Kelli; granddaughter, Ella of Conroe, TX; daughter, Natalie Suzanne Burns Valdez and her husband Ruben of Houston, TX; stepdaughter, Melissa Oram and her husband Tom, of Lexington, KY.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the dedicated team of professionals at VITAS Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Care in The Woodlands, who provided compassionate, supportive, and dignified care for Bobby in his final days.
A visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, located at 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas, 77303 on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with the Celebration of Life beginning at 2:00 PM.
