Ronald Royce Fikes (69) passed from this life on May 26, 2020 in The Woodlands, Texas. He was born in Cameron, Texas on October 9, 1950. He is preceded in death by his parents, Royce Caston Fikes and Dorothy Louise Harris Fikes.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Sondra; sons Jared (wife Kendall) of Magnolia, Texas; Travis (wife Marissa) of Tucson, Arizona; and Curtis Simmons (wife Terecita) of Spring, Texas; three grandsons: Noah, Kyle, and Aaden; three granddaughters: Anaiah, Aubrey, and Adelynn; and two sisters: Lanelle Witt of Big Spring and Gwen Sammons of Houston. He loved his family very much and was a loving husband, father, brother, and Papa. He had many friends and touched a lot of lives with his kind heart, humor, and wisdom.
Ron had a long career in the transportation and trucking industry first with Rush Truck Center and then retired from Select Transportation. He was well known in the industry and respected for being loyal, honest, and hardworking. He loved all kinds of music and enjoyed playing guitar. He also enjoyed many outdoor activities such as: fishing, boating, hunting, golf, the Houston Astros, decorating his house with the Christmas spirit and lights and most recently gardening. Early in his life he decided to give his life to Christ and passed that wisdom down to his sons. One of his biggest role models was his father who taught him the value of hard work, being a loving father and husband, and a friendly neighbor and friend; which he passed down to everyone that knew him. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity. Ron always thought St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital was a worthy cause.
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; … to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better…; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
