Ronald Raymond Legg Sr., lovingly known to so many as “Big Ronnie,” was born in Silsbee, Texas, on October 24, 1945. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 20, 2026, in Montgomery, Texas, at the age of 80. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, friendship, faith, and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by his family and countless friends.
Ronnie went on to graduate from Klein High School. He was blessed to meet his beloved wife, Vivian, where they created a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and three wonderful children. Ronnie and Vivian eventually made Montgomery their home where they remained for the rest of their years, surrounded by the family and community they loved so dearly.
Ronnie was a devout Christian and a deeply faith-filled man who loved the Lord and loved going to church. His faith was an important part of who he was and how he lived his life. Earlier in his years, Ronnie shared his love of the Lord by serving as a Sunday school teacher, before later becoming a proud member of Grace Lutheran Church. While at Grace Lutheran, he was actively involved with the men’s group and generously gave his time to help prepare the monthly breakfasts and annual Lenten services. His faith was not simply something he talked about—it was something he lived through his kindness, generosity, service to others, and love for his family and community.
Ronnie was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He was outgoing, sociable, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Whether you had known him for 50 years or had just met him that day, Ronnie had a way of making you feel like an old friend. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and if someone was in need, you could count on Ronnie to be there.
Family was at the center of Ronnie’s world. He loved nothing more than having his children and grandchildren around him, watching them play sports, cheering them on, and making memories together. He especially loved being outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying time with the people he loved. And if Ronnie was around, there was a very good chance there was good food nearby. He loved to barbecue and cook for family and friends and was known for putting together meals that brought everyone to the table. He also loved hosting a good party and making sure everyone had a great time.
Earlier in his career, Ronnie co-owned and operated his own business before dedicating 35 years to working as a pipefitter with the local 211 union. His hardworking nature, determination, and willingness to help others were qualities that followed him throughout his life.
His love for his community extended far beyond his career. Ronnie was a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Fair Association and volunteered as a Little League coach. Whether he was serving at church, helping at the fair, coaching a team, cooking for others, or simply lending a hand to someone in need, Ronnie found joy in giving back.
Ronnie leaves behind his daughter, Debi Coleman; son Ronald Legg Jr. and wife Jennifer; son-in-law Michael Cosgriff; grandchildren, John Cosgriff, Justin Coleman, Taylor Legg, Morgan Legg and fiancé Jackson Hendrix, and Kyndal Legg; his sister-in-law Velma Legg; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian Kirkpatrick Legg; his daughter, Lisa Shay Cosgriff; his parents, John and Gussie Legg; and his siblings, Tommie Legg, Dan Legg, Glen Legg, James Legg, Sherry Stephens, and Joe Bob Legg.
To his family, Ronnie was so much more than a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was the person who brought people together. He was the one who could fill a room with conversation and laughter, cook enough food for twice as many people as expected, and made everyone feel welcome. His stories, his generosity, his love of the outdoors, his cooking, his unwavering faith, and most of all, his love for his family will be carried on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Though his absence leaves an incredible void, his family finds comfort in knowing that Ronnie's faith in the Lord was strong and that he is now at peace in His presence. The love Ronnie gave so freely will continue through the generations. Every family gathering, every barbecue, every fishing trip, every ball game, every church service, and every good story shared around the table will carry a little piece of Ronnie with it.
Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303, US, on August 27, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303, US, on August 28, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Committal Service at Garden Park Cemetery, 801 Teas Rd, Conroe, TX 77303, US, on August 28, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Cutler, Gary Cutler, Justin Coleman, Jeff Pustka, Dennis Pustka, Jackson Hendrix, Kevin McMichael, and Ronald Joe Stevens.
