

Shawn Marc Bergquist, 70, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on January 3, 2026. Born August 8, 1955, Shawn will be remembered as a loyal, humorous, generous, compassionate, and beloved man whose life touched many through family, faith, and the world of horse racing.
Shawn grew up in Algoa, Texas on family racing stables and graduated from Santa Fe High School. From an early age, he learned the values of hard work and dedication that would guide him throughout his life.
He began working on the family farm as a jockey and later went out on his own as a horse trainer. Over the years, Shawn also served as a jockey agent and, most recently, as a racing official at Remington Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His knowledge of the sport and steady presence earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Beyond his work, Shawn enjoyed football, basketball, and, always, horses. He was also involved in the race track chaplaincy, reflecting a quiet commitment to supporting others and strengthening community.
Shawn had a son late in life and lived for his son Garry, a devotion that stood at the center of his legacy.
Shawn was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Bergquist; and his brother, Arthur “Wally” Bergquist.
He is survived by his only son, Garry Bergquist; sister, Kathy Bergquist; niece, April Bergquist; niece, Karen Delesandri (Richard); nephew, Chris Bergquist (Shawna); as well as numerous other family and friends.
Graveside Inurnment will be held at Garden Park Mausoleum, 801 Teas Rd, Conroe, Texas 77303, on March 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, Oak Hall, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303, on March 16, 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm.
