She attended school in Mertens starting 1st grade at age 5. The 1st grade teacher was a friend of Sheri’s mother and she agreed to let her stay in school as long as she kept up with the work.
When her father started a job with Sinclair Oil, the family moved to Grimes County. Sheri graduated from Iola High School in 1955.
On Aug 26, 1955, she married Willie Marshal Carrell in Shiro, TX. They lived in La Marque, TX & were members of the First Baptist Church La Marque for 35 yrs. They were married until his death in 1993.
They have 3 children, Marsha, Kyle (wife Connie) and Kera (husband Bryan). Sheri has 4 grandchildren, Ashely, Bradley, Hunter and Carter. She has 6 great-grandchildren, Henley, Paige, Sawyer, Hudson, Kylie & Dawson.
Sheri married Jim Burns in 2001. They were married until his death in 2023.
Sheri received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. She was an elementary school teacher and a librarian with La Marque ISD for 20 yrs. Sheri played the piano and loved music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kay and her two husbands. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 701 North FM 3083 West, Conroe, Texas 77303, on August 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 am.
A Graveside Service and Interment will take place at Independence Cemetery, 13367 FM 2620, Bedias, Texas 77831, on August 7, 2026, at 2:30 pm.
