Shirley L. Bridwell, 94, of Conroe, Texas passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023. She was born on April 7, 1929 in Okeene, Oklahoma on a farm homesteaded in the 1890s to Roy and Dorothy Broady. Shirley graduated from Okeene High School. Then she attended Oklahoma University and graduated with a nursing degree. She also met the love of her life, Harold Bridwell at Oklahoma University. She worked as a RN at a hospital in Oklahoma City and for a doctor in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Growing up on a farm she herded her father’s cattle into the barn with her dog, Ring, who scattered the cows more than herded them. In the 1930s she played paper dolls with her friend, Lee and they would stand in front of the mirror and pretend they were singers and movie stars.
As an adult she enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, and spending time with her friends.
She enjoyed taking care of her grandkids. She was a member of The Woodlands Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by Harold, her husband, and Bob, her son. She is survived by her brother Joe, sons Bill and wife Linda, John and wife Darlice, grandchildren Jeremy and wife Brook, Richard and wife Whitney, Jason, Ryan, Taylor, and Kali and husband Merrit; Ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00am at Cashner Funeral Home in the Cashner Colonial Chapel with burial to follow at Garden Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Conroe Assistance League, 126 North San Jacinto Street, Conroe, Texas 77301 or The Woodlands Methodist Church.
