Obituary of Socorro DeMoreno
Socorro earned her pass into heaven, with her family by her side on July 30, 2022. While her family mourns her loss on earth, they know she is now free of pain and illness and happily watching over them from her new home in Heaven. Socorro, better known as “Pita” to her family and friends, was born October 21, 1935 in Ayutla, Jalisco, Mexico. Pita is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Moreno, her parents Pedro and Juana Fonseca, and grandson Oscar De La Cruz Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Carmen Betancourt (Federico Betancourt), Maria De La Cruz (Oscar De La Cruz Sr.), Juany M. Sanchez (Mel Sanchez), Nora Moreno, Soco M. Gorjon (Jorge Gorjon), and Alma and Rosita Olachea; Grandchildren: Michelle Sanchez Joublanc (Mike Joublanc), Yessica Bearden (Ricky Bearden), Carlos Sanchez, Jacquie Cade (Tim Cade), Karina Lara (Alex Lara), Daniel Pino, Gabriel Sanchez, Omar Betancourt, Michelle Cruz (Efrain Cruz), Lissette Lopez (Eddie Lopez), Yvonne Iniguez (Olivia Iniguez), Ryan Sebastian Pino, Diego Gorjon, and Minerva Gorjon (Kim Gorjon); Great Grandchildren Chase, Maya, Nalani, Delilah, Johnny, Cruz, Carlo, Case, Ocean, Harbor, Isabella, Katherine, Talan, Vincent, and Eli; Siblings Victor Fonseca (Amelia Fonseca), Antonia Munoz, Manuel Fonseca, Felicitas Rodriguez, Jesus Fonseca (Carmen Fonseca), Jose Luis Fonseca (Gloria Fonseca), and Carmen Guerrero (Pedro Guerrero). She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was known to her family, friends, and community as Pita because her first-born grandchild could not pronounce “Abuelita”, so instead she said Pita, and that was her name for over 40 years. Pita was known for her immense love of her daughters, grandchildren and their families. She was a devout Catholic and loved her church family at Sacred Heart Church; she shared her love of God every chance she got. She rose before the sun each day to recite the rosary and prepare breakfast smoothies and tea for her daughters on their way to work. Pita did not lead an easy life, but it was a happy one. She cooked lunch every Tuesday so her family could gather at her home each week. Good Friday was a huge event she prided herself on hosting every year in her home for her family. She would use money gifted to her to buy gifts for her family instead of herself. She lived modestly but was rich in love. She made sure her family stayed united and close as they continued to grow and build families of their own. She taught her daughters to raise their children as siblings, not cousins. Family was very important to her, and she passed that same value to every single one of her descendants. In short, she was a true matriarch and an example of what dignity and strength look like. Her family will be welcoming extended family and friends to visitation and a rosary Monday August 8, 2022 from 6:00p – 8:00p at Cashner Funeral Home. A mass will be held in her honor on Tuesday August 9th, 2022, 2:00p at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
