Mi Querida Ahijada, Nuestra Querida Sofis Mofis,
Not a day goes by that you are not in a song, in the whispers of the wind, in a fond memory or a conversation and of course in a moment of prayer. You are now of two worlds, of Our Father's and of this world in spirit. Your joyful spirit has touched so many and continues to. You were an angel from the start. Know that the good work that you started while you were here, continues on to this day. We miss you Sofis Mofis! Your light lives on.

I just ran into someone who saw Smokey Joe's Cafe. They heard that one of the cast members had passed away. They were destroyed that is was the "little cute brunette". They said she was a star and couldn't fathom it and were very sad. Yeah, we know. Welcome to our world. :(

After the Wonderettes were over she took a three day weekend and i took some vacation time and I stole her away to galveston. We spent three days laying on the beach, walking the strand and trying to find fun places to eat.

I'm miss you Sofia, since the day I met you iv looked up to you, you're still my inspiration to sing. Sometimes I feel like the only reason i still do it is  because of you. I know you're watching over me and my family, so thank you. I love you

I simply just miss the whole Sofia I always encountered when I had the pleasure of running into you at work outside of work at our bar restaurant of choice during text or phone call. Sofia you must be tired cus girl your running through my mind all day!!! (that's the cheesey things we'd say) I love you

Mi querido.  I think about you every day.  I talk to you about the things going on in my life.  I ask for guidance when I'm at a crossroads.  Nothing compares to the simple act of feeling your hands on my face and hearing you tell me I'm doing a good job.  I strive every day to make you proud of me.  I wish you could be here to see and hear everyone that loves you.  I miss you mi Amor.

The sting of your passing shall forever remain in my heart.  I feel a part of me has left with you.  You were and are my dearest friend and sister.  You left your legacy of love with Gabbi and me in more ways than I can describe.  I feel your presence in my everyday life and you visit me in my dreams.  You will always be in my heart and I will think of you and pray for you and your sweet family every day.  I love you so much.

December 5, 2011:
I remember the night we were all at Mollys after my company party. We had all gone out to the patio. I turned around and you were gone. I found you inside having a really intense conversation with Luke. When I was close enough to hear I heard him tell you that he had never seen me this happy and I was so much more fun to work with. I was kind of upset that you had disappeared on me but seeing the smile on your face melted everything inside me.

My sweet friend. A year later and not one bit of your essence has faded. I can still hear your laugh (all varieties but mostly that loud booming one), feel your awesome hugs (where you were so tiny you fit right into me), the look on your face when you were really absorbing something meaningful, and the light in your eyes when you were happy. I miss you beyond what I can ever put into words… you are a once in a lifetime friend. Thank you for loving me and thank you for giving me your family in your absence. I love you… can't say it enough. I miss jewww. 
P.S. When I get to you in the afterlife you better have a bucket of beer and 5 lbs of crawfish waiting… butter and spice ;)

I can't believe it has already been a year since you left us my beautiful friend. I think of you so often, there are so many songs, movies, jokes and conversations where the memory of your light makes me smile. I am praying for your loved ones always and I will never forget the "words of wisdom" that you insisted I hear over and over again before I left school that last year. So thankful to have known you.

Sofia you were such an amazing person. The things you accomplished and the lives you touched in such a short young lifetime can never be forgotten. I am so thankful for all the love you shared with my daughter and granddaughter. To have known you at all is the greatest privledge. You leave behind an amazing legacy and example of life for us all. Love you so much.

Dear Sofia, I can't believe it's been a year. Not one day has gone by that I have not thought about you and missed you. Having you on my heart everyday has inspired me to do more things this year than I could have imagined. Thank you friend. I love having dreams about you. I miss you every single day. You were the light of my life and were (still are) my best friend/sister forever. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I could call you or text you something funny. In fact I still have your number in my phone I haven't brought myself to delete it yet. You always believed in me and made me feel so wonderful and for that I'm always thankful. I remember after Trailer Park auditions we went to Houstons and decided to go all out as per usual it was probably one of the best dinner dates I've ever had. I've met the man of my dreams and I wish you could be here for it. Sofia you were the most inspirational woman I've ever known and your talent was tremendous. You're an angel now and just now that I will always love you sopapilla.

browsing through my saved documents on a campus computer earlier today and came across something that said "Sofia." i opened it and it was my thank you letter to sofia for being such a pleasure to work with in such a short amount of time for millie. we constantly joked that she looked like bette midler in hocus pocus. anyone involved knows that wig and i weren't friends. but i did make a lifelong one from it. and anyone who knows me knows if i don't think i'll need it later in life, i'll delete a document. strange how things work. love & miss you, boooOOOOOOK. —

i have your funeral memorial program stuck in between my sun visor and the roof of my car, just enough to where your picture sticks out over my drivers seat. thanks for the encouragement yesterday when i looked up to you for it. i couldn't help but be happy :)

So today i was thinking about a lot of things and more importantly i wanted to talk to you and ask you about a lot of things. So tonight i will think and have a quick chat with myself and eat some delicious food at the same time because because i know you will be listening and will also appreciate the meal with me. I love you.

La muerte de un hijo es la prueba más insoportable que puede atravesar un ser humano.
Un hombre o una mujer que pierden a su pareja, son viudos, un hijo o una hija que pierde a sus padres, son huérfanos, pero los padres que pierden a un hijo, no tiene nombre.  Los padres estamos preparados para dejar este mundo mucho antes que nuestros hijos, pero cuando ellos nos dejan primero, nos quedamos vacios por dentro.
Escuchar…  ”Tu hijo ha muerto”  es un golpe de metralla que penetra primeramente en el cerebro para después alojarse en el corazón, destrozándolo sin piedad. Nunca se está preparado para afrontar la pérdida de un ser querido, pero entre todas las muertes cercanas, la más imprevisible y desgarradora es la de un hijo.
Llegó el momento en que debemos reconocer que Sofía, la niña tan querida por toda la familia y
todos nuestros amigos, ya no está presente entre nosotros;  ya no la podemos tocar, ni la podemos ver, ni escuchar su cristalina voz que acostumbrábamos oír. 
Es un dolor tan inmenso por lo mucho que hemos perdido, que nuestro corazón está tan destrozado y tan desecho, que hay momentos que creemos estar viviendo una pesadilla.  Pero un amor 
tan sincero y tan limpio como el que ella repartió entre nosotros y todos los que la rodearon, no morirá jamás, ella vivirá para siempre en nuestros corazones y eso es más fuerte que un abrazo, un beso o una caricia y más importante que cualquier palabra.
Esta gran pérdida que ha golpeado a nuestra familia, ha causado mucho dolor en cada uno de nosotros, estamos profundamente entristecidos por la muerte de Sofía,  pero  ella seguramente tiene ya un lugar preferencial en el Cielo al lado de nuestro Buen Dios y aunque su recuerdo viva diariamente en nuestra mente y en nuestro corazón, ahora ella está descansando feliz al lado de todos los Ángeles y Santos y junto a nuestro Creador.
Es sumamente difícil afrontar una pérdida de tal magnitud, pero lamentablemente el paso por la vida es tan corto que sentimos que el tiempo no es suficiente para hacer todo lo que planeamos.  La vida es tan solo un soplo y nunca pensamos en el momento de la partida de un ser querido, sino hasta que se nos va.

¡Oh Jesús! único consuelo de las horas eternas del dolor!  Oh Señor Misericordioso, en cuyas manos está el alma de todo ser viviente y el hálito de toda carne, a tu cuidado encomendamos el alma de nuestra querida Sofía que se ha ido de este mundo.  Enséñanos a aceptar el juicio de tu voluntad inescrutable, y haznos encontrar el consuelo en Ti.  Levanta con tus Santas palabras a los oprimidos
por el dolor, te lo pedimos porque reconocemos que eres Todopoderoso y que entiendes nuestro dolor que es tan profundo.

So i had Homecoming last night. There was lots of flashbacks from last year- Oct.1. It felt good to know i had you there with me last night. Love you so much Prima. ?

Did a show at the Heinen Theater this weekend, and remembered that Sofia and Manuel wrote their names in wet cement on a sidewalk outside the theater while we were doing Seussical. I'm so glad that there is a little piece of Sofia at the Theater. Brings back so many memories :)

Sept. 26, 2012:  Oh my sweet, wonderful, funny, strong, loving Sopapilla. Nothing makes your absence in my life easier. I wish you were here every single day and I only hope I'm making you proud. I miss you terribly, Sof. Thank you for loving me.

Found some old choir music and a note from you in our region tryout music. It was a good luck note and although a small delight at the time it is now priceless. Especially since you ended it with "I love you ". Love you too dear friend.

you're on my heart tonight, sister. i'm missing you.

I've been so torn about what to do - but I've decided to go ahead with this. I hope it gives you some comfort. I didn't know Sofia extremely well, we were friends but didn't see or talk often. She was in the Marvelous Wonderettes with my sister, Rachael, and in Kingwood Kaberet with me. We didn't talk much but when we did it was like no time had passed since we saw each other last. She was such an amazing presence. I had a dream the other night that was more real than anything I had ever dreamed before. I was at an awards ceremony for something I don't quite recall and she came into the room. She was with you and her father. She was wearing her green Wonderettes dress and her hair was in a very pretty french twist. In my mind I knew that it couldn't possibly really be her but I was so happy to see her again that I burst into tears. She hugged me and told me not to worry, that she was happy and safe and was doing fine. Then she looked at me very seriously and told me I needed to tell her parents that. That she was happy, and safe. She told me to tell you at least four times. I asked her why she came to me and not someone she was closer to, and she replied "Oh, but I do love you too." And then she repeated that I should let you know she was happy, and I woke up. I've been trying to come to terms with this dream and whether or not I should tell you and last night I saw her again. It was only for a split second, she said "You haven't told them yet!" and then I woke up. This time I know it was real and that I should tell you. I hope it brings you some comfort and not just more pain - i'm sorry if it did. Thanks for reading, Kathryn Logue

Oh Darlene my heart will never stop bleeding for you. the most heartbreaking loss in the world is for a parent to lose a precious child. words are so inadequate. I have not been able to even try to let you know how I grieve for you. My love and prayers are with you continuously, my dear friend

Dear Mendez family,
You don't know me, but I recently had the privilege of hearing Sofia as Lady Touka in the anime "Utawarerumono". I was taken by her voice, which had a low, beautiful tone to it. Since I never heard her before watching anime mentioned, I was curious to see what other anime she had starred in. It was there I found out about her unfortunate passing. It saddens me because I would've loved to have met her at a convention somewhere. I would tell her how much I loved her performance and would ask for a autograph and picture of her so that I could keep in my mementos. I know that this will never happen, but to tell you that I would do that hopefully gives you comfort. The small legacy that Sofia has left in anime has insured that I will not forget her.

To the Mendez family. You don't know me, but I saw your daughter perform in two different shows. She was a stand-out in both shows. Saturday night, I went to Stages to see Winter Wonderettes. I read all the dedications to Sofia in the program and was curious, so I went on line and found this. I am so sorry for your loss. I am shocked that she is gone and also sorry for the loss of musical lovers like myself. God had a different plan for her, but I will miss her in future shows. She was truly special. My condolences and prayers are with you.

We are very sorry for your loss. We had the opportunity to meet Sofia through our son Jesus when she worked at Pasta Co. She was always a joy to talk to and we admired her beautiful dances in a dvd that she shared with us.

We met again when she was working at Kirby's a few years ago and we got to know her again when she worked at Hubble & Hudson. She was always friendly and great asset to the restaurant. Sofia was a new workplace friend to my daughter.  What more can a mother hope for her child, than others who bring joy into their children's lives.  Sofia did that for my daughter and we are grateful for that.  

Although I did not have the blessing of ever meeting my fellow SHSU Alum, I KNOW without a doubt, the high level of beauty her soul was made of and the joy she must have brought to all who knew and loved her.  

Our daughters seemed to have much in common and looked to have a long friendship ahead of them.  They were roughly the same age, both graduated from SHSU and worked at BEUSA, but it sounds like what they enjoyed most was kidding around about their longtime boyfriends.  My heart aches for Sofia's family, boyfriend, and all the many friends she must have had.  

May comfort surround you at this difficult time and may the blessings Sofia bestowed on others come back to you in the form of love and peace.

My deepest condolences to you and your family.  I only briefly knew Sofia, but in the short time I knew her, she was a joy and inspired happiness.  She will be missed.

Dear Mendez Family, 
This is so incomprehensible.  We are just heartbroken.  I can't imagine what you all are going through.  Sofia gave us SUCH joy every time we saw her or hired her for things.  I not only had the pleasure of performing with her but directing her in various things at/for Texas Rep and beyond.  Jon and I both have worked with plenty of celebrities and stars in our day and we always talked about Sofia as having that star quality.  Both as a person and a perfomer.  She was first and foremost a friend though.  It takes a lot for someone or something to make us vigorously laugh or genuinely move us, but she always was able.  Her comedic timing and various talents were equal to the kindness of her spirit.  We will never understand this.  :(
