Mary Sue Smith was born December 10, 1928 in Dallas, Texas. She was the only child of Carl and Josephine Girdley Smith. She grew up in Dallas and graduated from W. H. Adamson high in 1946. In November of that year she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Parks. They were married for 25 years and were blessed with two children, a son Charles (Chuck) in 1950 and daughter Carla in 1953. She was employed by General Electric Co. in 1946 and during those early years attended El Central College and Rutherford Business School. Her career spanned 45 years. She held various positions with two other major energy companies Dresser Industries and Mitchell Energy and Development Corp.
In 1973 while working at Dresser, she met Jack Shepherd, a co-worker. They were married the following year. She was employed by Mitchell Energy in 1980 and Jack joined Mitchell in 1981. After their retirement in 1990, they owned and operated an antique business in Montgomery, Texas for over 20 years. Susie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conroe and a member of the Encouragers Class. The members of that class were true treasures to her.
She is survived by husband Jack, her beloved daughter Carla McCabe of Conroe, a stepdaughter Amy Guthrie of Austin, and daughter in law Susan Parks of Bedford, Texas. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Emily Partin and husband Steve, Meredith Carey and husband EC, Jason McCabe and wife Kelli, Rebekah Seiler and husband Adam, Rosemary Douglas and husband David, Jack Lakoski, Lauren Guthrie, and Matthew Guthrie. She also has 6 Great Grandchildren with another, Mary Katherine, on the way; Clay Carey, Elise Garza, Audriana and Annaliese McCabe, Nathaniel Vavra, and Naomi June Seiler.
Her son Charles (Chuck) Parks and much loved stepdaughter Katy Shepherd precede her in death.
Funeral arrangements are with Cashner Funeral Home & Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 31st, from 5:00-7:00pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 1st, at 10:00am.
