Thomas Stanley Corbett was born on November 9, 1930 in Driftwood, Texas to Thomas William and Winona Watson Corbett and passed away at his home in Conroe, Texas on June 7, 2025 at the age of 94. Stan is preceded in death by his daughter Charlotte Roberts and his siblings Mary Lou, Laverne, and Harris. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Faith Townsend Corbett, his son Gary Corbett and wife Eileen of Willis, his son Patrick Corbett and wife Angela of College Station, and his son-in-law Thomas Roberts of Grapevine. Stan was blessed with eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, Kevin Roberts and wife Jennifer (James, Jude and Nathan) of Carrolton, Kimberly Roberts currently serving in International Missions, Kelsy Hand and husband Steven (Hailey, Vivian and Lillian) of Plano, David Corbett and wife Ashley (Riley, Jackson, Olivia and Danielle) of Conroe, Michael Corbett and wife Brooke (Shiloh and Shepherd) of Panorama Village, Jennifer Hamilton and husband Matt (Ellie, Joanna and Luke) of Conroe, James Corbett and wife Jessica (Parker) of Frisco and Amanda Thorp and husband Nathan of Pearland.
Stan grew up in Driftwood where he attended a one room school. In 1944 his family moved to San Antonio where they attended West Avenue Baptist Church. It was there that Stan accepted Christ as his Savior. His faith was evident in all he did, and he was a strong influence on his family’s faith journey as well. In 1948, Stan graduated from Thomas Edison High School. He earned a degree in economics from Trinity University in 1952 and then worked for a retail credit company and in sales before returning to school. While studying at the University of Texas he met nursing student Faith Townsend. They were married in 1957. Stan continued in school and earned his degree in accounting in 1958, passed his CPA exam and went to work as an accountant for Tenneco Inc from where he retired after 35 years of service. Despite being a lifelong Longhorn fan, Stan would later have to endure ten Texas Aggies amongst his children, grandchildren and their spouses. Stan and Faith moved to the Conroe area in 1982 and became active members of First Baptist Church Conroe where Stan taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon.
Stan loved to travel. Every summer he would plan a big trip, hook up the camper, load up the family and go. When the kids got too big for the camper, an annual trip to Galveston became a twenty-five-year tradition for the kids and grandkids. Every man, woman and child who could walk would load up with canopies, chairs, ice chests, inner tubes, life jackets, buckets, shovels, towels and sunscreen and trek from the condo to the beach and back several times over the weekend. The evenings were filled with food, games, movies, laughter and the making of lifelong memories. As a special treat “Pawpaw” treated the family to a trip to Disney World complete with a Disney Cruise. A couple of years later it was an Alaskan cruise! After the kids went off to college, Stan and Faith began to extend their travels overseas. Every trip near and far was faithfully documented in dozens of slide shows and about 150 photo albums.
In addition to travel, Stan’s other big passion was games, particularly 42, Canasta and Hand & Foot. He liked winning, and you had to play your best game if he was your partner. Only a grandchild could garner some tolerance for a bad play of a domino or card. Throughout his retired life, Stan was part of various groups playing games every week or month. In these groups Stan and Faith made many precious, lifelong friends. No doubt, Stan had a 42-game going shortly after getting to Heaven!
We will miss Stan, Dad, Pawpaw, but we know he is with Jesus, and we will see him again. We give thanks to God for our time with him and what he taught us about the importance of faith, family, working hard and living responsibly. We love you!
