Thomas Joe Lackey, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born on October 18, 1932 in McAllen, Hidalgo County, Texas to Rosa E. Lackey and Charles W. Lackey and died peacefully in his home on September 6, 2018.
After graduating from Weslaco High School, Joe enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War. He served from January 1951 to November 1954, when he was honorably discharged on November 8, 1954. While Joe was stationed in Portsmouth, Virginia, he met his sweetheart Gladys Edwards, on his birthday, in 1952. Joe and Gladys were married on November 20, 1954. They celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Joe had a heart for service of the community. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce in Kingsville and Raymondville while living in the respective cities. He also served as Little League President in Kingsville for several years, volunteering many days a week. Joe took pride in his membership and activity in the Masonic Lodge. He served as Master of the Lodge in Kingsville and Raymondville, as well as, District Deputy in 1972. He was a proud Mason for 55 years.
Joe leaves a strong legacy of service and leadership for his family and friends to follow. He is survived by his bride, Gladys Lackey, brother, Bobby L. Lackey, sons, David Thomas Lackey, Charles Boyd Lackey and daughter-in-law, Julie Lackey. He was also loved by his 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 4-6pm. Graveside Service will be Monday, September 10, 2018 in the Chamberlain Cemetery, in Kingsville, Texas at 2pm with Pastor Charles Lackey officiating.
