Thomas grew up in north Louisiana and attended school in Chatham where he graduated in 1948. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he served for six years. It was during that time, while serving at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida, that he met the love of his life, Frances Register. They were married July 13, 1951. After a brief stay in Valdosta, Georgia, with the Air Force, Thomas was honorably discharged on August 23, 1953.
Thomas and Frances subsequently moved to Port Arthur, Texas where Thomas found employment at Gulf Oil Corporation as an accountant. They raised three children and Thomas remained with Gulf Oil/Chevron Phillips until 1991 when he retired and they moved to Conroe, Texas.
Thomas was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Port Arthur, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth worker and sponsored several Senior Adult trips. After moving to Conroe, they became members of First Baptist Church of Conroe, where he served as deacon, usher and a member of the Do-er’s Sunday School class.
He was an avid woodworker, gardener, painter and writer. He was particularly honored that one of his paintings won first place at the Montgomery County Fair in 2017. He also enjoyed taking mission trips with West Conroe Baptist Church and helping with construction during those trips.
