Dr. Tom O Miessler was born December 17th, 1932, in St. Louis MO and died April 26th, 2025, in Conroe, TX. Tom grew up as a military brat, moving around with his parents and brother. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1950.
After graduation, Tom entered Texas A&M College. He received his Doctorate for Veterinarian Medicine in 1956. In 1954, Tom was set up on a blind date where he met the love of his life, Arlene. Tom and Arlene married on June 23rd, 1956, and had their son Ray in 1957, daughter Pat in 1959, daughter Gretchen in 1962, and son Tom Jr. in 1964. Tom started his career as a meat inspector in 1956. In 1958 Tom and Arlene made their home in East Houston where he opened his first veterinary clinic, Lakewood Animal Hospital. They raised their children here until they moved to Spring, TX in 1969 where he opened Oak Ridge North Animal Clinic, and then entered partnership on The Vet Center.
Tom was very active in the community, where he built Timber Oaks shopping center housing Oak Ridge North Animal Clinic and the first washateria in the area. Tom and Arlene were founding members of the Faith United Methodist Church and were members of various committees. He was on the board for Tri-County MHMR, he was a Life member of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club. He was instrumental in the development of the Chamber of Commerce. After retirement, Tom and Arlene bought an RV, joined Lone Star RV club and spent many years RV-ing around the USA and traveling the world.
Tom had many hobbies which included fishing / fly fishing, woodworking, woodcarving, beekeeping, and gardening. Tom was a good cook and avid grower of tomatoes.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, mother Frances, father Robert (Bob), brother Robert Jr. (Bob) and wife Sylvia, and grandson, James Turner Midkiff. Tom is survived by his son Ray & wife Joni, daughter Pat, daughter Gretchen & husband Philip, and Tom Jr. & wife Ying; grandchildren Ray II & wife Kelli, Catrina & husband Steven, Monica, Luke & wife Jocelyn, Cy & wife Cindy, Andrew, and Maria; great grandchildren Jaslyn, Carlos, Jaycee, Jaelynn, Jaxen, William, and Elowyn; and many other family members.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home with visitation to begin one hour prior. Interment will follow at Garden Park Cemetery.
